While you guys are enjoying the weekend, Texans close to the coast will be getting ready for the biggest Storm to hit in a while. It's almost 500 miles wide, and on par with Hurricane Carla in 1961. Galveston is a mere 300 or so miles away from the storm, it's already flooded and it has not even started raining yet. I live in Katy, TX which is like 90 miles away from Galveston. We will have Hurricane force winds before the Eye crosses Galveston, it's that big.

    Check this out - http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032128/
and the cool tracker program.. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26295161/

We will try to get some interesting Video (no promises... It will probably be too dark), and post it on our blog. If there is any cool Tacoma Stories to tell in the aftermath, you know I will tell 'em like a proud parent.

    take care!

    -Sam

PS- maybe this will help my "we need a lift" case.. :D

Any Tornadoes touch down in louisiana yet? Check out some of the Galveston video, no rain yet and it's over the seawall which I know is higher than 12' probably. And there is still people planning on riding it out there!??

I wonder how long we will be without power..

To my knowledge there have been no tornados. I saw seawall, been there plenty of times fo I have a good idea of how high the water is. As for power they are talking about turning off our power later this afternoon. I hope not because there are a ton of people staying, we however live in the country so maybe they will just turn off the town. I do have my generator fueld up and ready to go thought.

Wow, interesting night. 75-85mph max winds in my area, we got very lucky. Lots of trees uprooted, or snapped at the base, broken limbs, holes in roofs,etc.. no flooding, not much rain maybe 3".. just high wind. Turns out I still have power.. one of a few homes that do. everyone else I know does not.. I think they (centerpoint energy) count at least 2-3 million without power during the sticky hot September months, yikes! We were/are blessed, the storm took a north/east turn, and we did not get the worst.. Katy is on the far West side. Houston, and Downtown is like a "bomb" zone, wow. Still haven't seen helicopter photo's of Galveston. Maybe 50-100 houses in my area have power along with a VERY BUSY HEB Grocery store. oh.. and SPECS! Yippie! :D

oh, BTY.. Home phone works, internet works, cell phone (sorta-txt only), and I NEVER lost my satellite signal all night! HD DIRECTV, power out for max 10 seconds. No damage to the house or cars.. Plants are in fairly good shape considering.. Hope that is it for another 25 years.

    :)

Been watching this on TV. You made out pretty good. Sounds like the refineries took a beating. Over 2 million people without power around Houston. Friggin nightmare.
    Take care
