Having a issue on my 2010. Cold here in NY i started the truck with my remote start and had the heat on. When i got in the truck I heard some noise coming from the glove box area. So I thought that was pretty weird but said hmm maybe it’s because of the cold.
Well now it turns a out when I switch the climate selector to feet or defroster or front vent it doesn’t change properly.
My fan speed works although i have had a intermediate issue with the blower resistor and the plug as the speed sometimes only works on low or high which i have the parts for the repair but never got around to replacing.
My question is what is going on with my blower mode selector options? Is it a blower door actuator?
I read something about a mode control servo motor? Anyone have any idea?

Thank you! When i got in the running truck i did hear SOMETHING on the passenger side. it kinda reminded me like a fan blowing against a plastic bag. i said wtf is that….
Going to check it out tomorrow and also check the cabin air filter as i haven’t changed it in over a year. well over due

So that mode control servo is deff what controls the switching of modes from front vent only to defroster to feet only and defroster only?

Sometimes if you can get your hand on the servo, you can feel it.

If you’re going to change the resistor, just go straight to the 3rd gen replacement - don’t mess around with any 2nd Gen parts. Waste of time and money.

Yup, bad actuator and blower resistor along with its plug. Plug has the same issue as the heated seats connectors being too close to a heat source (the resistor in this case). That causes the connector to start arcing and eventually fail.

What is the 3rd Gen replacement parts list needed for an upgrade?

That is the blend door actuator, it switches the door position from heater core to AC coil and turns on the hot coolant flow to heater core. The mode actuator switches air flow from vents selected. Find which one is malfunctioning before firing the parts cannon.

based what i read from the thread above people said that is the mode control servo which is what i need.
my issue is the airflow from selected vents i believe as when i switch the knob to defrost or front vents i get some clicking noise and the airflow isn’t full blast like it should be. it’s like it’s stuck half way or something. Air barely comes out the front vents when i have it on front vents. Comes out a little on defroster enough to feel it. But not full blast

My problem isn’t with that little button that recirculates the air inside the truck. it’s the knob with all the different modes.
Super confused on what i may need. But i thought the pic I posted was the correct part. Maybe not?

Replacing the resistor / harness with the same thing leads to the same problem.

Yeah i have a new oem one not a dorman replacement.
Also my speed settings is t a full issue it’s intermediate reason i never replaced it after a few years.
Just wanting to replace the issue i’m having with the modes because i need my defroster here when we get ice and snow in upstate new york.
Just trying to figure out the exact part number because i have been told conflicting things since researching.

HVAC modes and fan speeds are separate issues. Toyota updated their service manual to replace 2nd Gen parts with their 3rd gen blower resistor connector and resistor as there is a fundamental flaw in the 2nd Gen parts. The issue is not OEM vs Dorman or other aftermarket supplier, but 2005-2015 OEM vs. 2016+ OEM. It’s all in there in the first thread.
