My clutch fluid was really low, almost none showing, so I assume I have a leak somewhere. If its a line, can I make one up to replace a leaky line or is it better to buy new from a dealer?

I haven't crawled under it yet to see where it leaks, I was away and now its pouring rain.

The truck is 12 years old, but no rust anywhere, and it has only 86,000KM/53000 miles, so hopefully its just a line. I filled it with fluid, but its a spongy pedal and needs bleeding.

    Thanks,

    Don

My guess is the line is not leaking, more likely the seal in either the master cylinder or the slave. Check for leaks inside the cab for the master cylinder as well as outside.

My MC is dry inside the cab, wall is dry, no sign of a leak. The truck was rust proofed with an oily liquid, impossible on a wet day like this to see a leak, everything looks wet.
I tried bleeding it, doesn't seem to put out any pressure. I saw where some gravity bleed, nothing happening there either. The fluid is very dirty, probably never been changed and it has black looking sediment in the MC. I guess time for a new MC.

I'm old and not used to hydraulic clutches, does what I am saying make sense?

    Thanks for the reply.

I can't get a MC and slave until tomorrow, I removed the MC, it wasn't leaking, but the fluid was very black, lots of sediment. It seems to pump almost OK, but hard to tell, but it may not be springing back like it should when you pump by hand.

    I have some questions:
    1. I assume the sediment has ruined the rubber diaphragm or whatever is doing the pumping inside the MC, so I'll replace that.
    2. I assume the sediment is now inside the slave as well, so I'll replace that.
    3. Is the line from the MC to slave all one piece? Hard to tell in a tight space, but it looks like it is.
    4. Can I clean that out with compressed air and some brake cleaner and then use a synthetic brake fluid in the clutch since I will have replaced everything, except the line that I have cleaned?

    Thanks,

    Don

On my 96 there is a hard line from the MC to a 90* rubber hose and then hard line to the slave. It all can be unbolted and cleaned if need be but when I changed my MC this weekend all I did was take a hand pump and flush the hose.
