@jonnyozero3 I washed the truck yesterday at a touchless (high pressure) wash with the lights on and there were no issues.

For sure. X2 . Order mine the other day. Took a bit for Joyce to get back to me with the extra $15 invoice, so was beginning to wonder. But they are on there way now.

OK so today I pressure washed the engine bay and everything got soaked. went to turn on lights and I heard them start to come on then nothing. popped the 15 amp fuse. I took a leaf blower to everything and put in a spare fuse. still popped it. I checked and double checked every connector and they were bone dry inside. I finished washing the car then drove down to advance auto to buy more fuses. got home popped the hood and confirmed the whole engine bay was bone dry and put in a new fuse. now all is good.

So...I'm at a loss as to why they would be popping fuses with connectors sealed. maybe something else in the harness?

Any who, the good news is these mounting locations are dry unless youre washing the engine bay and I'm assuming it would have been fine if I'd just let everything fully dry before trying to fire the ballasts.

Might pick up some low profile 15 amp fuses though to keep on hand for good measure.

I'll keep you updated if I run into any non self induced problems.

Did they send you tracking info? I haven't heard back anything after sending payment. Will inquire.

I'd seal the crap out of everything with shrink wrap, liquid tape, etc. and try again. Water has to be getting in somewhere.

Could some moisture possibly have migrated into the actual ballasts ?

No tracking info yet. But from previous experience with custom purchases from that neck of the woods. I wouldn't expect anything for a couple days.

    Ok, gotcha.

Yeah, I'd remove the ballasts, dry them, and liquid-tape any connectors/openings. Going to do that on mine when they arrive.

I'd be shocked if it were the ballasts because they fill those things with a clear silicone or whatever it is...and it dried out awfully fast for water penetration...that usually hangs out a lot longer. soon as the bay was dry it was all good.

I'm not too concerned about it. I gave it pretty much the worst case scenario and the fuse did its job.

Fuse popped again now while completely dry. I think I know what's going on and I don't think it has to do with water. I think that was just a coincidence. The bulbs fired and I heard the ballasts buzzing. It got maybe 2-3 seconds into the warm up cycle before the fuse popped. The ballasts are just drawing more amperage on the warm up cycle than the 15 amp fuse is able to consistently handle.

Reading that on warmup these things draw close to 10 amps each and with a single 15 amp fuse for both, it's too much. So options are to replace the 15 amp fuse with a 20 amp, or throw in a relay harness so the power draw is directly from the battery and relies on inline relay harness fuses to protection.

Thoughts? Halogens are back in for now till I figure this out. I suspect upping the fuse to 20 amp isn't a significant risk and may be a first step.

So...now I'm embarrassed. Total RTFM moment here. The instructions with the kit indicate a 20a fuse is needed.

I was going back and forth on the riskiness of this and was tempted to go the route of a relay harness when I looked at the fuse layout and see that there are 10a fuses for the Headlamp low beams left and right...so each has its own protection, and the 15a must be a total circuit which has reduced the headroom. Going up to 20a should not cause any concerns that I can envision. The wiring can clearly take 10a from either harness.

So, 20a it is! Picked up a low profile 20a fuse and threw it in. Several cold fires initiated with no problems. Will keep you all posted but I suspect this is what I was missing.

As an update, the HID's have been working flawlessly since going to the 20amp fuse, even through a heavy rainshower.

Despite that, I decided this wasn't worth the risk, however small. I purchased the beefiest harness I could find which was through Diode Dynamics. Their Heavy Duty relay has a single input, single ground and single relay so the wiring is beyond simple to install and only 1 relay to fail, instead of two. It has the added benefit of having a built in capacitor which is unneeded here, but a benefit nonetheless. I used another stock grounding location to mount the relay and it again looks very clean.

Operation seems no different other than turning on and off the lights rapidly has the ballasts staying fired, due to the relay having a slight delay in turning off. Turning on seems instantaneous.

I would say a worthy add-on as a safety measure for the stock harness. The 15a fuse is back in as well.

I believe you will be a lot better off with the relay harness. Always better to make sure the lights are getting the power they need rather than under power them with the factory harness. I had a similar setup in my truck for 8 years with the relay harness and was very happy with them. Believe I may order one of these kits for mine. Thanks for the write up!

So it has been more than 3 weeks since I've sent payment. I received the Diode Dynamics harness about a week ago (got the same one as OP), but still no HIDs. Emailed the seller asking for an update earlier today and just got a reply saying they haven't even shipped them out. They claim they asked for my phone number (they did not), and since they didn't get an answer, they didn't ship. And after more than three weeks it apparently didn't occur to them to "ask" again. That's not to mention the fact that you don't need a phone number to send a parcel. What the fuck!

I've got a sneaky suspicion they were hoping that I'd keep waiting until PayPal's "file a dispute" period (45 days, I think) would expire before contacting them, and then never send me anything at all.

Pretty sure we put our orders in same day. CP delivered the HID Xenon kit and the Diode dynamics HD harness, to my shop. Both on the same day around the beginning of last week. Installed and up and running on Fri., Rememberance Day. Sorry that you havn't received yours yet.
This is the email procedure the seller used with me. Occurred over 2 day period. Seemed pretty cut and dried with exception of day delay for the $15 PP invoice to show up. Time zone difference me thinks.
