Well, so far I've gotten zero response. Emailed on 4/7, politely followed up on 4/10, followed up again 4/12 explaining that I'm disappointed with the lack of response let alone a resolution and that I would expect a resolution plan to be communicated within 5 business days but that clearly hasn't happened. I will continue to try to contact them via email and any other means I can find. I'm persistent (read: stubborn) and resourceful.

Finally got a response from Hylux. They want the barcode from my failed ballast but I’m unfortunately out of town for a few days. They also provided another email address,
    ballast@hyluxtek.com.

So I’ve installed mine a few weeks back. They look sick. But I just realized something. When I have the DRLs on they’re super bright and then when I turn my low beams on the DRLs dim a little bit. This is normal right. Never really realized that before but I think it’s normal, correct?

So I provided the barcode from my dead ballast but Hyluxtek won’t help me because I bought it from a distributor of theirs. They require their resellers to handle all warranty issues and they simply give their reseller an extra unit in their next shipment.

So I contacted the seller via AliExpress, it took them 4 days to respond and now they want me to ship the dead unit back to Hyluxtek on my dime. I’m pushing back. Ive never heard of such a warranty arrangement and I work for a global mfg in the aftermarket/consumer care part of the business.

Typically, a mfg accrues a small percentage of every sale to account for expected warranty expenses. The higher their failure rate the worse this is but it’s typically high single digits, not too bad.

Very curious. If I were in your shoes I’d probably send it back but I would order a new one for like $35.

If you get a replacement from them you can always sell the extra

I don’t want to bother with buying/selling and shouldn’t have to for a warranty situation. This is a piss-poor warranty process.

I told the seller on aliExpress, DMEX, that I refuse to pay to return the broken one and that whoever wants it is welcome to provide me a prepaid label.
I also contacted Kendra at Hyluxtek, informed her of the situation and asked for assistance in dealing with DMEX. She agreed that they do not really need the broken one back. I provided this info with a screenshot to DMEX so we’ll see what they say now.

Oh for some reason I thought you ordered from the Chinese company like the rest of us. I think we were all interested in how the warranty would work dealing with China having ordered through “manufactory88”

None of us had any real expectations but you are in a different situation with a different seller

    Hopefully it works out.

As I’ve learned it’ll make zero difference. Regardless of ordering through AliExpress or eBay, both come from China and both are dealing with the same nonsense Hylux warranty. Hylux explained their warranty process to me and unless the seller is willing to absorb the costs of shipping, like most any US seller would, you’ll be on the hook and at risk.

So the seller is sending me a new ballast once I send him a pic of the broken one with the cord clearly cut off while showing the serial. Reasonable request IMO.

Finally have a resolution. I have a new ballast inbound free of charge!

The seller (DMEX via Aliexpress) changed the terms of our agreement after I provided him with pics of the bad ballast with the wire cut as he requested. He now wanted me to pay $14 shipping. His rationale was since I am not shipping the ballast back, I should pay shipping. However if I sent the ballast back, I he would pay shipping. Makes no sense, there are no official warranty terms, Hylux can't force the reseller to do anything, and Aliexpress only allows you to file complaints/claims within 15 days after receipt of the shipment.

The 3yr warranty is 100% useless if your seller isn't trustworthy. After going back and forth for a while and laying on the guilt pretty think with Hylux, they finally agreed to send me a replacement at no charge as an exception. They also encouraged me to let anyone else know to NOT BUY FROM CHINA SELLERS. The price is cheaper but it's not worth it and they have great resellers in the US, is essentially what they said. My major problem is that calling it a warranty but requiring the consumer to fork out more money is misleading. Manufacturer warranties don't have deductibles or other monetary obligations, that's extended warranties, totally different game. I've dealt with both in depth at work so I have some background here, albeit different industry.

I 99% gave up hope and ordered new ballasts off Amazon of a different brand, so tomorrow night I'll do a SxS comparison and share the results with you guys.

Interesting experience and I think we all appreciate you documenting it here.

Personally, the price is so cheap I would probably just order another Chinese one and not even bother with the warranty.

@r1200gs4ok already addressed the sending back fiasco, see my previous posts. It’s now resolved, just waiting on shipment of the new one to arrive.

As I mentioned, I bought a new set of ballasts on Amazon, mostly based on reviews and while this set was one of the best reviewed AC ballasts, the performance was starkly different from Hylux.

    Amazon Link:
LEGO Harry Potter and The Chamber... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MQ61WE0

    Driver’s side light = Hylux
    Passenger side = XtremeVision

You can definitely see that the Hylux has a cooler color and more intense hotspot. Nothing else was changed, same CN Light ball type bulbs, just different ballasts. I was honestly surprised to see such a noticeable difference.

To the OP and others who installed this kit in 2016, how has it held up? Any failures? Any weird electrical issues with the truck?
