I've had these installed for almost a year and no issues here.

Those of you that have these lights, did you have to adjust the aim any? I feel like I am blinding cars in front of me since i light up their side mirrors. I decided to lower them a couple turns and called it good.

    Hi all!

I just recently received my hyluxtek hid kid from the The Retrofit Source .... the ballasts have a canbus module attached. The Tacoma doesn't require a canbus module, can I still use this kit or will it have issues?

I ran this kit for 2 years no problem until today. No power at all after turning on, then they randomly turned on full power and started to flicker, while on the interstate. It was a great kit that lasted for 2 years, I ended up swapping to stock a few mins ago. I wish there was just a better bulb upgrade. Gonna go stock For the time being. RIP HIDs...

That sucks. I ran mind since July 2017, so far I've replaced DD relays (both went bad last year, within couple of months of each other) which wasn't HID related per se. Recently I also noticed difference in color between right and left. I'm afraid they might be on their way out...
Really like the kit, and am considering getting it again if this one fails

I’ve had mine 3 years. Still running strong. At this point I would likely buy them again even if they fail tomorrow. Tough to go wrong for around $100. I used the HD relay kit for the install like many others.

Right?! ~$100 for the amount and quality of light, isn't bad.
I also use HD relay kit, and both relays failed approximately two years after installation.

BTW. Diode Dynamics stood by their two year warranty, and replaced bad relay almost two years after purchase.

It may just be a hassle for me, I know the stock lights are extremely bad and this upgrade was tremendous. But with all the components to worry about I just feel like it isn’t worth the trouble at the end of the day. If a ballast goes bad - gotta replace it, if a relay harness goes bad - replace, if the bulb goes bad, replace. Sorry for the rant! By all means this is a great set up for HIDs on our 3rd gens.

No electrical failures. It doesn't tap into anything. The only thing is that my passenger side light sometimes won't start up and I have to turn the light off and on. Someone had a fix for that here though, just never got around to doing it.

I had this issue last summer and simply put in a separate relay and power source for the passenger side light and issue has not reoccurred since thankfully. Took about 10 minutes since I already had a spare relay.

My first post in this forum...

Is CNLight ball bulb + Hylux still considered a good low beam setup?

I was leaning towards a XD 5000 hid kit & came across this posting.

I'm not concerned about Hylux ballast, as XD seems to use a version of it, more about CNLight ball bulbs vs XD.

Don't want to give up a lot on light output.

    Thanks.

I can't compare with XD 5000 since I haven't used them. The CN 4300K gives out a nice amount of light that is NOT too white , which I like. But... After little over two and a half years, one of the bulbs started to throw warmer color light. It was still bright and all, but aesthetically it bothered me enough to buy a new set. I bought the same set, mostly because I like that 4300K color. I received the same type of bulbs (4300KB) and same ballasts, but this time they weren't packed as nicely as original purchase, AND it took pretty much two months for them to get to me (shipped from China). YMMV

Thanks a lot for your input.

Others, please let me know if you have any experience with it.

Also, has anyone used it successfully without a relay?

I'm looking to use this in my Honda Odyssey.

I just stumbled upon a 2016 version of Hylux 35w ballasts made for Distantxtremes under XenonPlus name (without the see through window, similar to XD), ballast comes with a 6 year warranty (even if goes out once during the 6 years will be useful to get it replaced).

    https://www.distantxtremes.com/store/p968/35w_Xenonsplus_Premium_Replacement_Ballast_.html#/

Does anyone have any experience with it?

I could get a XD HID 5000 bulb & would make a nice pair.

    https://www.distantxtremes.com/store/p4579/Xenondepot_H11_XTR_HID_Replacement_Bulbs.html#/

Please advice (price would be almost similar to what you get from Hylux/China through eBay) after their current discount.

No idea. This thread is for this specific configuration so not much to compare to. May want to start your own thread.

Anyone develop a shake with these bulbs / kit. I had no issues for over a year and now I'm noticing a slight shimmer in my right bulb when driving over rough roads (rough hard packed snow).

Never really noticed this before, or maybe I'm paying more attention to it now. I'm running the HD relay as well. The bulb seems secure within its socket.

just 2 cents here, I've had the kit over 3 years and it's been totally great, no issues. also with the relay. wonder what's going on with yours.

Although I'm on second set (because of weird bulb discoloration) never had an issue with shaking/shimmer. Check if your bulb sits ok, and/or housing isn't meltes for whatever reason.

Just another datapoint here as well, been running the OP's set up for over three years now, zero problems or complaints. Plenty of off-roading, 6x coast-to-coast roadtrips, -5 degree temps, washing engine compartment, etc. Can't beat the improvement over stock for the price paid.
