Recently I got a 2022 Trd off road Tacoma and I’ve noticed that the temperature gauge is always around this level I don’t know if I should be worried of if it’s okay

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

The important thing with the temperature gauge is that the hand should go to the same place every time you drive (vehicle fully warmed up) and stay steady there.

If you see it outside of "normal" or wandering around then you need to investigate the cause.

My truck's temp gauge needle stays in the same position too. I've had my truck for five years.

To be pedantic and take your statement literally...

If it is "always" at that level, even when cold started, then it is stuck. I doubt that is what you mean tho, so I bet that all is well.

I suspect it will go up a bit if towing uphill at high altitudes, but mostly the cooling system is pretty robust and is able to keep it pretty steady.

P.S. Put on your seat belt!

Center of the gauge…my 19’s warmed up gauge position has been pretty much right in the center for 6 years, including even the first drive after I changed the coolant.

Your truck is running completely normal.

I think Toyota does this intentionally, making the gauge read your particular vehicle’s normal operating temperature as right in the middle. I also own an IS500 with a completely different animal under the hood that runs quite hot in just normal operation, it’s gauge is always dead center both on the coolant and it also has an oil temperature gauge on the main cluster. I also remember renting a Corolla and it did the same thing cruising at 75 mph down the Florida turnpike.

My gut feeling is the temperature gauge isn’t reading an actual temperature. The ECU probably sends a signal to the needle to be in the middle as long as the engine temperature is in a range.

man, did this guy ever get a pass from "it's not friday" folks :)
you can get an obdII tongle and phone app to check what the ECU thinks the temperature is (among lots of other things).
I don't know if there is an analog sensor driving that analog gauge (that redundancy would be smart) or the ECU is driving it just for your consumption. I have another vehicle that has 2 sensors, one for the gauge and one for the ECU. nice when debugging odd reading (which yours is not).
mine is always 1/2 scale once warmed up.
    welcome.

I just a month ago had my thermostat replaced as my temp gauge wasn't going to it's normal halfway point. 104,000 miles
Now I'm just not as cool as I once was...

I’m guessing they programmed it so that the normal setting is straight up in the middle like that, my 4runner was always 2/5ths.
