I'm new to here but I have already posted questions in other(s) threads...I guess I should have started here...and introduce myself.

I'm from Calgary, Alberta Canada...the great white north! This is my first Tacoma... or rather Taco as it's called in here. It's a Silver Mica 4X4 - 4 cly SR5....also my first 4X4!

While I don't plan on doing any real 4X4ing, I will be doing the ol' "road warrior" trek from home to work and back, in freezing winter temps (-40 C, same as in F) on very icy and snowy roads. It'll be a nice change to the usual slip and slide to which I've grown accustomed!

I look forward to reading, learning and addin' in my two cents worth from time to time....oh, and there maybe a question or two along the way ;)

Welcome. Just curious, what were you driving in those conditions before? I can't imagine not having 4 wheel drive in that kind of weather.

My last truck was an 05 Dakota V6...they didn't come out with the 4X4 version in the 6 till 06 or 07.

Driving a 2WD rear drive in winter conditions isn't as bad as it sounds. You just gotta be real patient or else you end up in a ditch or doing to ol' bumper hump with your fellow travelers.

The wife got smart quicker than I did and bought a Jeep TJ in 05, same time I got my truck. I took it out one day in winter...OK I stole it from her...and almost didn't give it back! What a difference 4x4 makes...as I'm sure you already know!

However, I had to wait until my other truck was paid off before I could upgrade....and it was Toyota all the way once I test drove it and all the other competition! Great little beasty!

Leave it to Dodge to have a truck not available with 4x4.....that just sounds ridiculous.

    Nutz! Agreed!

In '05 you could only get the 4x4 with the V8 which had 230 HP. I will say one thing for it, it was a nice ride, very comfy. The Tacoma has a more truck ride but then it is a 4x4 so I'm not complaining.

I only put on 40,000 klms - 25,000 miles - in 3 years on the Dodge and felt the tranny already needed work. I later concluded the auto 4 speed trans was a poor match for the V6! I already trust my Tacoma (4 cyl) manual...just love driving a stick again...further. Now let's just see how it handles the winters up here... :)
