For every person who hates it there are many who would complain if it wasn't there.

    Indeed.

I don't like it, but it is pretty noticeable when you go all the way to MAX AC. I just avoid turning it all the way to MAX AC if I don't want AC...

Anyhoo, what really drives me batty is when you take it off MAX AC - the AC stays on, but the recirc flips off. I always turn off the MAX AC, then hit both AC and recirc buttons at the same time to turn off AC and on recirc. That, to me, is a really stupid design.

Don't get me started on the defroster automatically turning on AC with NO option to turn it off. WTF? This is all car manufacturers AFAIK.

That is annoying part to me, but they would get huge complaints from people who get too cold once truck cools down and want to turn the AC down but not off. You can't win with this I'm sure its a 50/50 thing with everyone.

    Also
Defroster requires the AC to defrost. It needs to remove the moisture and blow dryer air onto the wet frozen window. It it was just warm air it wouldn't work as quickly. Also a minor point is to keep the AC from freezing in the winter.

I know and agree that AC helps the defrost process (removing moisture from the air). But why can't I control it? IMHO it should light up the AC light (even if it auto turns on) so I can at least have the option to turn it off...

I think someone made a writeup on how to mod the truck so it does this. Or maybe it was disabling the AC on defrost entirely, I can't remember... I am going to look into it tho.

Edit - shit. 2009+ it doesn't work for... Disable AC on with defrost

Edit 2 - Looks like 2009+ folk need to look at this post.

No, this isn't the problem at all. It's a waste of gas/resources. I'd rather not use AC if I don't need it.

But it does additional consume fuel... Sure it's not a massive amount, but did I ever indicate it was...? No. Besides, I like having control over what the truck is doing - I would prefer it doesn't make decisions for me, thanks.

No one is forcing you to do the mod, I just think it's dumb manufacturers force this crap on people. I guess it's all part of idiot-proofing...

There is a writeup to correct this. I have the link at home and will post it later. Reading that link is what prompted my question. Thought maybe I could work on both at t
    he same time.

Depending on the vehicle, AC actually robs between 4% and 40% of MPG. We would definitely be on the low end of that statistic, but still. Troll elsewhere.

That's because you have an '08. The MAX AC thing started on the '09+.
