Had my truck parked at work the other day. When I got off work I noticed a note on my windshield. It was a note from security basically saying they saw someone jamming a rod into the keyhole of my tail gate essentially breaking the actuator. Now my tailgate can’t open and I can’t access the bed because of my bed cover. Took it into the dealership and they quoted me ~$1000 to fix. I’ve opened a case with my insurance company but it’s been a pain in the butt.

The one good thing I’ve learned is that I figured out a way to open my bed cover if the tailgate is locked. Don’t know if that’s a good thing or bad thing...

Sounds like something you could fix yourself for much cheaper?

Did you have something in your bed that was worth keeping safe vs the 1k cost in repairs?

Might be worth thinking about before you keep securing your bed

Need to get front rear dash cam with parking mode... good thing it was lock or it would be gone most likely.

Yes, fixing it myself would be a lot cheaper and something I can figure out. My bed was empty at the time.

I have the Rexing V1LP front/rear dashcam. I've got tapped into the 20 amp fuse in-cab which is for the sunroof, which I don't have. The Rexing, in this setup, records constantly without draining the battery.

Sorry to hear this, thieves do suck and deserve some things I cannot say in here.

You can get one of these locks. Also, with one of these you can even leave your main tailgate unlocked so when they open it up they see this and leave.

It’s the same thing that retail stores will do with a cash register. They leave it open at night so if someone breaks in they don’t smash the register to find out it has no money in it.

Bloody thieves! When arrested and convicted we should cut their damn hands off. I hope you can get this sorted out without too much additional stress.

Thieves do suck yes. How about the security guard for not taking action unless he watched video footage after the fact

Which security guard? The 23 year old that thinks he’s a marine FBI sniper? Or the 85 year old half crippled one that can’t see?
