Security was patrolling the lot when he saw the guy. Security walked towards them and when the thieves saw him he jumped into a waiting car nearby and drove off. Security footage didn’t get much. Unable to see license plate.

I was charged $300 just for “diagnostic”.

Was the quote for the whole tailgate handle with camera and lock?
Could you have a locksmith just change the cylinder?

Fat Bob's lift kit, 30's on stock steelies, lunchbox locker in the rear, and a ton of other general mods and additions to help the utility of the truck for my particular uses.
Just chiming I’m on the dash cam. I use a VIOFO a129 duo. Has parking mode since I have it hardwired and has a great picture quality. Got it on Amazon.

Good Grief. If the knucklehead was after a tailgate, you'd think he'd balk at doing $1k worth of damage to it.

I hate thieves and rapists. As a society, we should do more to deter those kinds of crimes. I vote for an immediate death sentence with no recourse, carried out at the town gallows.

It would drop -- but don't get your hope up for that sort of punishment happening in the US any time soon!

I put an electric pop a lock on my taco, tied to the drivers side rear passenger door lock. No physical key lock on the tailgate for an arsewipe to fuk with and my tourneo cover makes it a safe place for stuff, on the very rare occasion of crap worth anything in there

That's not exactly nothing. He went to see if it was the owner or not, & not ran away before he got there. Effectively he chased the guy away & set notice that the lot is not easy pickings.

True, I did the same exact thing. Only problem, is thieves are dumb. So they still might try and steal the tailgate lol. But I think that is about the best you can do.

$1000... Dude you could straight up buy a new tailgate and replace it for that... That's an insane price.

The Rexing would be a wise choice. It gets amazing reviews for a reason. Although I don’t have one installed on my Tacoma (I should), I do have a Z-Edge S3 Dual Dash Cam in my Forester. Piece of cake to install. Both of these cams are well worth the price.

Dummy should have found a unlocked tailgate . He would have been gone before security could yell Stop I'm A Mall Guard and I have a flashlight .

I read a thread a while ago about tailgate theft and using a worm gear to deter it, so I bought one with a special adapter to tighten/remove it for peace of mind. The one I bought came with 2, so for $6.89 it's well worth it, I plan on using the other one on my next truck, so cost only about $3.45 per truck. Funny thing is I owned a Nissan truck for 18 years previously and never had anyone attempt to steal the tailgate.

I do not have a dash cam yet. Are you not afraid they will break your window and steal that?
I know I would be upset if someone tried to steal my tailgate.
Why don,t these car makers correct the tailgate situation. I had a Chevy truck and the tail gate came off the same way.
