Ps. I'm cursed, I hear every friggin sound this truck makes and it bothers me to no end lol ... Something I'll have to get used to with the whining TOB, taco tick lol

Yeah, the longer you own a vehicle, the more likely you'll notice little noises. Best thing to do is turn your music up, and get on with your life. Just enjoy the truck.

If its the normal ticking its the valves. This motor doesnt use cushioned hydraulic lifters. Its direct contact which is noisier, but more efficient for vavle movement.

You should never ignore noises... I recently diagnosed a bad wheel bearing upon hearing what sounded like thin metal rattling on thin metal. I started out looking at simple things like heat shields and exhaust noises but after jacking the truck up I found the real problem.

If I ignored it, it could have turned into a real issue going down the highway...

I have the same sort of noise. I have the same curse I hate that I feel like sometimes I am listening to hard to make it an issue lol I had mine checked by the dealership and a shop both said it was normal. I haven't tried this yet but its worth giving a shot.

    ??

My 1gr uses hydraulic lifters. Check the service manual. You are supposed to prime them before installing. The only vehicle I have ever owned with mechanical lifters was my hemi roadrunner (68). It was a regular task to remove valve covers and adjust to stop the ticking noise. The 1GR engine doesn't have this problem thanks to the hydraulic cushion provided by what Toyota calls the "valve lash adjuster". Instructions are to submerge in oil, open the check valve and pump the device several times to expel air and fill with oil.

Which book are you reading that tells you to open the check valve and pump device to prime it?

    That SAME service manual.

I was looking yesterday to see if this was truly a mechanical lifter system, which would be unexpected since they are HIGH service devices from experience. I don't have my macbook with me, but there was a section dealing with replacing lifters, and even cited what they often call a "SST" (special service tool I presume) that one uses to release the check valve to get the lifter properly filled with oil. I'll try to find it when I get home late tonight...

I saw the part you quoted. But I don't think anyone would design a long-life engine with the camshaft banging on the valve mechanism with nothing to absorb the shock.

Could have somehow misread I suppose, but am not sure how...

If its the same book, there is a picture of a solid lifter being measured by a micrometer. The fact that there are 35 different size lifters certainly would point to being solid. They are a "shim and bucket" design.
