Excellent choice, most of the utility and none of the flash and markup!
SRs are the best value and Toyota knows that but the lots are still full of TRDs :bananadead:

Congratulations! I'm very pleased with mine. Already updated cruise and wipers. Dipped the wheels and miscellaneous other fixes.

How do you like it? How is the acceleration? Can you compare it to anything?

I'm so close to buying one of these but started to have second thoughts about buying a truck this big with 159 hp. I used to drive a 22re pickup with 31" bfgs, it was quite slow. But Now I drive a 2.5 Subaru Forester with 6 speed and I am quite happy with its acceleration.

I know the 2.7 4x4 is going to be somewhere in between. I just don't want to regret dropping nearly 30k, if I determine I need more. And there are none close by to test drive.

For what it's worth, I don't plan on towing anything large or really at all, I do plan on adding a camper shell, and all terrain tires close to stock size. I do live in California where there are lots of hills, so power is a concern. I don't need it to be fast but adequate.

I really like it. No regrets. Its not a fast vehicle but its geared nicely and a lot better on the highway than my jeep. No problem cruising at 90mph. I bought it sight unseen as I had been searching for a manual transmission for about a year. In my opinion its the best value Toyota offers. Very capable and I like the looks of it. In the month Ive owned it Ive yet to tow anything but I think the torque will be adequate for light utility loads. The dealership here in Texas took $3k off msrp after some negotiation so I paid just under $25,000 otd for the utility model. My advise is to grab it quick and feel lucky you found one.

A few pics of my simple updates. I installed a $60 viper alarm for keyless entry. Researching fog lights now.

If you have prior experience with a 22re and you're already having second thoughts about the power of a 2.7 and you live in a hilly area and plan to add a camper shell, then a 2.7 isn't what you want. Your budget of $30K can buy a nice, used 6 cyl. DCLB. While I don't regret buying my 4 cyl., I probably wouldn't do it again due primarily to climbing hills, and I live in a relatively flat area.

Good point. On the other hand, I just really don't like the look of the double cabs to be honest, I want an access cab, I want the long bed with the shorter wheelbase.

I also am at the same time a fan of the classic 4 cylinder 4x4 Toyota configuration and I'd like to get one while I still can. I never hated driving the old 22re, except when I drove up the grapevine really (very long steep grade at freeway speed) . I like the simplicity and reliability and economy of it, I know it would be perfect off road, only real concern is just the fatigue of continually winding out a little motor to get around where everybody drives fast.

Honesty, it has no issue up any hills as long as you keep it above 3000 rpm. 3000 rpm and it will climb pretty much any grade and can actually accelerate up most

I've had my 2.7 for almost 200,000.never missed a bigger engine till started dragging a trailer with my RZR on it.if the winds high, you gotta run in 4th a lot.if its hillier or a big bridge,4th.otherwise its great.

I drive all over the Sierras (70, I80, 50, 88, 89, 4, 49, 140, 41, 120, 168, 395, you name it) with a camper shell and another 500-600 lbs of payload (plus 32" load E tires which kill acceleration) and I've never NEEDED a more powerful engine. You can't be afraid to rev it. I use 4th a lot and even 3rd on the upslopes at 50-55 mph. Sometimes I'm going a little slower than the prick in the Audi behind me wishes I was going but he can lick a nut.

I'd rather have the decades long reputation of the Toyota 4 cyl truck engine on my side than extra HP.

    Congrats OP!!!

    My 2015 base 2.7L 5-spd is fantastic!!!

Once you get it broken in it loves to rev with no reservations at all.

Yes I use 4th a lot on the freeway but it's a transmission with gears, you want to go faster you select a better gear. :benchpress:

I bought the same truck just as the 2016 model year began to arrive on dealer lots. Without a doubt, a great value at $24K out the door with TTL and other fees. The sad news for 2018 - Model #7513 Access Cab, 2.7L / 5-speed combo is no longer offered.
