Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep can't even make lug nuts that don't swell up to holy hell within 3 years. You have beat a socket over every single lug just to get it off, then get to beat the stuck lug out of the socket once it's off. Can't even design a lug nut correctly, what makes anyone think anything else they do is any better?

I have driven a 2012 Jeep that i worked on (lift kit, gears, wheels, tires, bumber front and rear, and winch. I have to say they arent that bad but it is definatly and single purpose vehicle you cant carry hardly anything in them and not much room (2 door) so no family or really friends unless they are small. But they are fun once you have $70,000 invested in them including price of vehicle.

    Well, there's your problem....

Don't judge a Jeep by someone's cheap-ass hacked together lift job & lack of maintenance.

i'd love to have a jeep (heck, my buddy owns a dealership) - however my family's had two of them, and i've personally owned two of them. they're nowhere near close to the toyotas in reliability - so i'm passing.

Drive a 2012/2013 Rubicon. Maybe take it offroad in places you were previously stuck. Come back with an update. We will wait.

The Wrangler has a lower steering ratio and a shorter wheelbase. It should handle worse than a Tacoma at speed. Then you add in the shoddy suspension you mentioned... No surprises here.

I have a 2011 DC 4x4 offroad and my wife has a 2012 Unlimited Rubicon. We agreed that the 2 door was to "jouncy" for a daily driver and opted for the 4 door which is still more sloppy than the Taco but fun and enjoyable I believe it depends more on what the driver wants and is willing to deal with. FWIW her commute is 30 miles a day and averages 18-20mpg. I definitely believe the Taco is the better all-round vehicle but the jeep is a lot fun to drive.

    Jeep Feedback ON:

I've owned several Jeeps. Two Wranglers (92 & 94) had 35's, ARB's, and roll cages (to name a few mods). Awesome offroad vehicles! I'd do it all over again if I was in the mood to do the offroad scene again. The torque on the 4.0L is incredible!!! Ain't nothing like being on an extreme hillside, letting your foot off the clutch without any gas and the jeep doesn't roll backwards.... You have to experience it to love it!

My husband had a 99 Grand Cherokee as a daily driver - bought it used (3 years old). We needed something to tow the trail jeep with. It had a 6500lb towing capacity and it actually towed pretty well for us for several years.

The 4WD system on the Grand Cherokee's is pretty impressive. Transfers power side-to-side and front-to-back when needed. The ride & seating is the most comfortable vehicle I've ever driven. The 4.7L is strong & dependable. A lot of electronically controlled luxuries on the inside.

Sold the Grand to my mother-in-law. We had that thing in our family for 9 years and once it reached 10-12 years old, it started costing a lot of money to keep it on the road. I can't blame it.... anything 12 years old would start being a handful.

Grand Cherokee resale value is poor. In 3 years, the cost to buy one drops literally in half. That era Grand Cherokee, the major problems...the brake rotors warp constantly. The blend doors on the climate control break (and you have to take the entire dash apart to get to them).

Personally, I wouldn't buy another Grand Cherokee but I'm not sorry that we owned one. I would definitely buy another Wrangler for a knock-around top down kinda vehicle. I wouldn't buy a jeep for a daily driver.

My wife had a 08 4 dr JK Sahara when I met her. She doesnt have it anymore. Biggest POS new vehicle I have ever seen/rode in.

Interior plastics feel so cheap compared with other "new" vehicles.

3.8L Caravan drive drive in a four door Jeep...just another dumb act by MOPAR.

Burned 3 qts of oil every oil change and they would do nothing about it. "We realize these motors have this issue, and will replace the engine under your lifetime powertrain warranty, as long as it doesnt blow from being low on oil." Really? She had to carry a case of oil and fill it every time she got gas.

Rear diff leaked from day one and the dealer "couldn't" fix it after three warranty visits I fixed it myself.

Three passenger door seals and it still leaked. Finicky-ass tops that leak unless they are just perfect.

One week after she got it all the brake lines were recalled.

Transmission recall bc they were overheating and spewing hot trans fluid on the exhaust and burning to the ground.

Cool looking vehicle for sure. Piece 'o' shit...for sure. It was her favorite vehicle she ever owned and her most hated vehicle she ever owned.

She now drives an 02 Tacoma.

Sure. Toyota ain't perfect and I've had one or two Yotas with lug swelling issues, it's not incredibly typical though. Like it is with C/D/J.

Me and my assistant manager had a discussion just yesterday, he was talking about how C/D/J is having major ball joint issues. Vehicles with 20K on them and ball joints loose as all holy hell.

Just junk. All C/D/J. Junk. Why people continue to think/defend that they make quality vehicles is beyond me. C/D/J is the worst of the worst.

This is starting to remind me of the threads where people get the spring tsb then complain how the ride is too harsh, then people chime in about it being a truck and riding like a truck and should have got a Cadillac if you wanted a smooth ride etc..

Now it appears if Jeep doesn't ride like a Cadillac it is junk. People seem to forget what jeep is and always has been. A utility vehicle for offroad use that you can still use to get groceries.

It does many things much better than a Tacoma and vic versa. Thats why we have choices so we can make the best for our situation.

Toyota can't seem to make a truck without a whistling windshield and its had like 8 years to figure it out so that would be more of a concern to me than interior plastic that feels, like plastic, or a non-Cadillac street ride on a vehicle which favors dirt.

My dad had a 2000 Cherokee Sport. Cracked cylinder head @ 50K, 4 wheel went out @ 100 k. Got 220,000 km out of it. Those 4.0 L engines are supposed to be bullet proof. It was a piece of shit IMO. He mostly drove Chevys all his life, and said he would never buy a Chrysler product again after that. Went back to Sierra.

Toyota & Jeep have always been rivalries in the off road community because there are more Toyota & Jeeps on the trails than any other brand. Because they're the best at it.....

I've owned 3 Toyotas and 3 Jeeps in my adult lifetime. Each vehicle had its own purpose and why I bought them. I can't complain either way..... They got the job done.

I find it funny......those people who are so radically against Jeep but have NEVER owned one themselves and/or those folks who are so radically dedicated to Toyota that they never own anything else (and bitch about Jeep or other brands).

Not a fanboy. Owned a Jeep and 'yotas. Too many mechanical issues (listed above) with the Jeep to ever consider another. Maybe I just got a dud...but I doubt it. Every JK with a Caravan powerplant is a dud IMHO.

I'll take a whistling windshield (still BS that this happens) over burning oil, leaking fluids, and major recalls one after another. I can live with a clockspring recall on my truck, but not all the brakelines, and the transmission. And this was on a 2008 remember.
