i love my 4 banger alot haha. but i have my pop up camper and dirt bike to tow... i was going to go with 33s and a 4 inch pro comp lift. but at the last second i realized i wont even be able to tow my trailer and bikes): so i went with 31 all terrains and i can still feel the difference in power. i wonder if i can tow my shit with 31s:(

I read a post where Jhodge (I think) was talking about his MPG with 35"s on his truck, and it was better than what I was getting with my 32s. I keep most of my driving under 2K rpm if I can, and I use cruise on the highway. Yesterday I got 20mpg driving like this. So now I drive slow. Doesn't bother me much, I'd rather get good gas mileage and not have to be on the look out for speed traps

Sit back and listen, youngsters. I started off with a 1300 '72 Datsun--look it up. It ran mostly at 2'000 feet of elevation to 6'000, hills always. Slow and steady 26 mpg. Bulletproof engine, power and speed evenly, lots of miles, loads and hitchers. The 2.7 is probably awesome, I'd say, but for towing, maybe, then the 4.0 (which is what I have now, 20-22mpg flatland). Enjoy fuel while it lasts, but conserve if you can.

I replaced the 215-70-15s with 235-70-15s and the truck is so much more stable in the wind and the tail is much less inclined to step out.

I love my 4 cylinder. It has all the power I need and it goes fast enough to get me pulled over within spittin' distance from the red light.

I'd rather my V6. My first truck was a 4cyl and it made having a truck useless.

It comes down to your needs and wants. I'm very happy with my 4cyl/5spd/4x4. I get decent MPG and have capability to tow what I need to tow. It matches my needs very well.

IMHO the 4cyl/5 speed is a reliable and simple design that will last a long time with minimum problems along the way.

I only have 4x4 because I'm in Alaska and it comes in handy from time to time. Don't use it for off-roading...I have ATV(s) for that purpose.

Last truck was 1981 Toyota 2WD/5spd/4cyl...traded that in on a family friendly vehicle 24 years ago. Family needs and series of overseas assignments kept me out of a truck until my retirement from Active Duty Air Force 14 months ago. My Taco was my retirement present to myself...and I'm as happy with it as that 18 yr old kid I was felt with the 1981.

Bottom line is don't pay attention to the peer pressure (that gets easier when you get older). If it suits your needs and you're happy...who cares what anyone else thinks or says. That's my 2 cents.

The 4 cyl. is just fine, simple minds cry of its lack of power, theyre just ignorant. Its a simple 6yo game of 1 upmanship and inadequecy compension for some. Goes like this: "oh you have a 5L ..... i got a 6L"....."My 7L is 6" mega lifted"......" have that ,with the quad chrome over resivoired for the parking lot shocks"

Go down the freeway , notice those above mentioned always go 5 mph faster then you too, goin 70 in a 65 mph (Oregons posted speed) , theyll still speed up n go 75.

My 2.7 can accelerate up hills on the freeway , not always in 5th so I drop to 4th, its the likely right gear anyway for it even if its a 4.0.

Buy what you need , and a bit more perhaps. The ignorant have freedom of speech, but no right to be heard , tune em out.

Tonight was following a car in second gear at about 20 MPH, he turned off and I pushed the go pedal about halfway and yes it does start to accelerate hard at about 3 to 4K RPM's. Had not punched it for a while. My 4 popper is just FINE like a good wine.

Those of us concerned with fuel economy, don't be *too* shy with the gas pedal, remember an engine makes better torque with a certain amount of throttle and pussyfooting will not necessarily give better fuel economy. In other words, we can use the torque curve to our advantage. I will go above 2200rpm occasionally... I know, living on the edge.

I'm a guy who recently owned a V6 Tacoma and I now have a 2010 I4 SR5 and couldn't be happier. I'm a die hard bass angler who does a lot of traveling to different ponds and this truck works for me. I spent more money on gas in my old V6 Taco than you could imagine. Not to mention I love my fully loaded Taco vs. my old base V6.

I love my 4cyl. Its fine especially if you keep your tires at 265's. Put an exhaust, header and afe pro dry drop in filter. It will give it a little more pep. If I want to be a speed demon I jump in my worked 350z which makes 407hp at the wheels.

it all boils down to this..get what you want and don't worry about what others say. you are the one making the payments not the other guy. if I had unlimited funds I would have bought the v-6 4wd with all the bells and whistles but my funds are limited, i bought within my means and with Ubama taking the oil prices outasight and the shieks in egypt getting booted out we will see $5 dollar a gallon prices by July 4th. I know this isn't a political forum but can't this administration do anything right?!
