I made a thing for switches because the thing I wanted didn't exist.

There are is massive catalog of keystone jacks, mostly in AV and Networking applications but it's a very flexible solution.

It was a great idea on the part of the person that requested it. Not really useful for a whole lot of people, but I'm willing to bet it'll pretty solidly hit the mark for a handful.

Just installed mine (took 2 minutes) and put some Air On Board switches in the holes. Waiting for a little more daylight before I wire them up. Solid fit, and a good placement. IMG_2403.jpg

if you wanted to do a Carling style plate you could make it two pieces where a front piece that fills in the recessed portion snaps into a back plane. Thinking the front panel would sit flush with the surround as opposed to recessed like it is now. Just an interesting thought.

I actually played around with that idea a bit, but the Carling switchplate itself is larger than the opening and will not fully toggle in either direction because it will contact the surrounding panel. They just don't play nice together. I've also considered modelling the whole panel and making a single piece to replace the pocket and the panel, but that's a lot of work and I'm not really convinced it'd be worth the time and effort.

Those switches fit in the dual narrow switch plate. They are in fact the same switches I'm using:

    Mostly stuff I built.
Do they dim with the dash lights or are the obnoxiously bright like the fleabay switches?

I haven't found any that dim with the lights other than actual OEM and I've tried aftermarket switches from a number of vendors. I agree that they are obnoxious and that's why I didn't hook up the lighting. Too far from the road to be looking at switch labels at night anyway. There's some generic OEM dimming AUX switches that came in a JDM Toyota of some sort and has a little green light (like the lower center console switches) that I saw someone had used. I'll have to try and dig that up.

Has anyone tried wiring a small resistor in the circuit for the switch light? Seems like that might help bring it down a little.

Edit: AOB switches match pretty well with factory color and light output.

Can someone please tell me how to remove the dash pocket? I know that I read it somewhere, but I can't seem to put my finger on it.
    Thank you.

You don't actually have to remove the whole lower dash, the small panel that the pocket attaches to will pry out. Mine was pretty unforgiving at first but it'll come out. Use a plastic pry tool or wrap a flat screwdriver to avoid doing any damage.
