I made a thing for switches because the thing I wanted didn't exist.

lol I don't know where they come up with the 21x39 but I'll go with it! I'm not sure what they're measuring versus me.

Thanks to @Istan for hooking a bro up! Can't wait to get this thing installed!

I'm fairly certain you have the first version of the switch plate. If ordering from CH4X4 you want the small 34x23 push switches for that plate, not the standard size 39x21. The screen shot above from @Istan is a different version of the switch plate. This is the plate it looks to me like you have: https://www.shapeways.com/product/EWH4EQRKR/tacoma-switch-plate

so just curious, where should I be measuring to get these numbers that they come up with? when I measure I get approx outside dimensions of 35mm x 26mm and inside of 27mm x 18mm. The small ch4x4 they list 34mm x 23mm. I could see me being a mm off, but not 3!

Just trying to avoid dropping $50 on switches that won't fit :(

If the switch was the exact same size as the opening it would be wedged into the plate and inoperable. There are clearances on all sides. This photo from the top post is the switch plate you have with the smaller switches installed:

You can choose to trust me on this or not but I've got at least one of every switch plate I designed in my desk drawer and I'm certain at this point that I know what switches fit what plate.

Thank you for the clarification! Thank you for creating this, and thanks again to @Istan for hooking me up with the switch plate. This community is awesome.

image.jpg image.jpg Seriously disappointed. I ordered the three switch plate, but when it arrived my carling style switch didn't fit. So i thought, well maybe I was supposed to order the two-switch plate. When that one arrived, my switches didn't fit in that one either. What gives?

You have to pay attention to the dimensions. The "zombie light" you ordered probably from here are 48.56mm x 25.91mm. The 3 switch plate accepts switches in the dimensions of 21mm x 39mm. The 2 switch plate accepts switches 22mm x 32mm. So in short the carling style will not fit either plate you are now the proud owner of. I ordered my switches from here. They are more expensive, but I've been happy with the quality and appearance. I hope that helps.

The very first post in the thread states that Carling switches aren't happening and it's said that since the thread was created. You bought the wrong switch, not the wrong plate. These switch plates accept OEM style switches only, in one of two sizes depending on the plate.

Removal of the "cubby" in the dashboard.

    Confirmed!

I saw several posts about removing that beasts, with two different answers: Would the cubby and the surrounding area come out on it's own? Or do you have to remove the lower dash?

The cubby does come out on its own. Here are a bunch of pics once the piece is out. You can see the tabs that secure it to the dash. There are several of these clips:

    Left side: 3
    Right side: 3
    Top: 2
    Bottom: 3

(see pics below for their locations)

I used those plastic interior pry tools at the top of the plate. Once I could get my fingers in far enough at the top-middle, I simply pulled hard. The thing came out.

Here are the pics of the piece removed after I had put the new switches in:

    Confirmed #2 - Dimmers.

    Also verified.... with pictures.

The new switches will light up and will dim, if you tap two of the wires that go to the bed light switch.

I did not see pictures on the forum, so wanted to provide a few.

As suggested in the forum - use the "Tap It" connectors. They rock. Use two of the 20-22 awg connectors.

    upload_2017-2-27_11-38-24.jpg

Tapped. I added two fuses after the taps. Small 3 amp. Probably not needed, but I don't like tapping into existing...

    upload_2017-2-27_11-39-3.jpg

Up close - the green wire (existing switch hot) and the peach colored wire (existing switch neg/ground/whatever...):

    upload_2017-2-27_11-40-34.jpg

    Good luck.

Nice products!!! I put an order in and received it but I ordered the wrong "two switch plate". I didn't realize there were two types until I read this thread. Oh well, that's my luck. I just ordered the correct one (hopefully).

Thanks for noticing the difference. I ordered the narrow and it appears shapeways sent the wrong wrong. I emailed them and they are going to get it fixed for me. Great customer service from them.

This is the second time I've heard of that happening this month (also second time ever). I'm a bit confused on how that happens even, but you're right about their customer service being great. I've been dealing with them for a few years now and customer service has always been excellent.

Where did your bed-power, cargo-light, and rear power window switches go?
