I have an 08 sport double cab, it was involved in a hit and run. The frame is damaged beyond repair, and they have decided to replace the entire frame. I was told that the frame would take 4-6 wks to be made and shipped. I am currently at the 7th week with no results.

The parts dept. says there is no way to track it in there system, and when they look it up it shows just an invoice # but they don't show any info that it has even been started to be made. So I'm trying to see who I can contact to see what is going on. If anyone has any advice in this matter I would greatly appreciate it.

This is an issue between you and the shop; your policy probably provides "for repaor or repalacement: whichever is less"

I would contact someone higher up in the shop.

Somewhere I remember hearing about toyota having to make frames as they are needed or something like that..it might take a while to get one made. But yes..usually if the frame is screwed..they would total it..

the owner of the shop has spoken with the adjuster several times, the adjuster wants to replace the frame, the shop had said to replace the frame would be very expensive. The adjuster said the value of the truck is to high. The estimate of damage is going to be around 13k. I thought they would total it as well.

And as far as the frames go, they are made on an as needed basis but with the recall on the frames rusting out they are way behind. The body shop I'm dealing with ordered a special order truck to be built and they had received the truck in like 5 wks

have you considered switching insurance providers after this is all said and done? that sounds like a hassle, have they given you a rental car?

the rental coverage is only 600 which I have exhausted already. I've been happy with the insurance company, not so happy with toyota at the moment.

That is the main problem with any ... "High Resale Vehicle" ... they want to fix it if at all possible (up to as close to the salvage value as possible).

A twist on this, if you can find a higher paying salvage broker or buyer, perhaps you could make this work on a total loss. I did this for a friend and it works, but you have to do some leg work too.

Unfortunately you can't just total a vehicle because you want it totalled; would be great if you could.

He signed a contract with the insurance company. You would have to get close enough to your states "total loss threshold" for the insurance company to consider totalling it or there would have to be something major to deem it not roadworthy. If it is cost effective to replace the frame they will not total it.

Most states thresholds are around 70% -75% of the the value of the vehicle for it to be deemed totaled. But you should check because each state is different.

The part problem is out of the insurance comapnies control. They most likely wont give you any more rental as this was a contracted amount as well. If you have been with the company a long time you could argue for more rental time with a manager of the insurance compay but they will likely not give you much more rental time.

There is no frame recall for 2nd gen taco's, so unless they stop production of 2nd gen frames to build 1st gen frames, which would also hold up factory truck production, I call BS. Anything in north america is within 1week by ground shipping, it has to be frustrating. I'd be telling the dealer the truck is theirs when its done, and picking a new or used from the lot.

You have any update for us OP? I would really like to know where you are on this.

About to go through the same thing right now. Waiting on my answer today if they total it or replace the frame. I too have been told 4-6 weeks for a frame to arrive. Was rear eneded on Monday. My truck is only about 7 months old so the value on it is still super high.

I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
I'm not, insurance company said my truck was worth more than what I bought it for brand new, even though it was 3 years old with about 35k miles on it.

paid like 22.5 otd, they told me it was worth 25k. I had over 14k in damage too.

I'm surprised its taken this long. Mine was set to deliver overnight....

My whole insurance fiasco took almost two months to get figured out. Sit tight bud, you're in for one hell of a shitty ride.

wow this is a pickle. I would make it clear to both insurance and repair shop that this is taking longer than they said and you have exhausted your rental coverage through no fault of your own.

Wow I'm surprised they would change the frame. Only 13k to change out the frame of the truck?

i feel for you man. This is brutal...

I was told yesterday it was going to be around $14k to change out frame and bed.
