shakespeare are crap rods...I broke one first cast...lol Ugly sticks hold up well. Ive caught many fish on a 5-6ft ugly stick, They have larger 8-9 foot ugly sticks as well. Penn is a good brand. Its going to depend what fish you are trying to target but it appears to be a predatory fish...so if its got some good teeth you'll need to have a steel leader, I'd try at least 40lb leader and 20-30lb test line, braided is really good but it can tangle after a while, zero memory and abrasion resistant line is good to have too. You can have lighter line if your drag is set light. I prefer to have at minimum 20lb for bigger fish. Bait depends what they allow where you are...If you can use live bait use it with circle hooks hooked through the eyes.

I roll with 80# power pro on some rippin lips rods. Matched with a spinning Okuma ABF90 for catfishing only. All other fishing is bait fishing to me. I like to go sit in my boat and relax with a good friend a couple cold ones. Hopefully this cold goes soon so we have open water. I am having some serious withdrawals right now.
