    I don't own a Tacoma yet.
I've thought about one for years but I keep going with my little Honda.
I found a cheap 97' 4x4 model with just a regular cab and dents all over.
    It needs a clutch.

How hard is a clutch to put in on these things?

btw I have pretty good mechanical knowledge/skills. I've done timing belts and axles and brakes and etc etc (even engine/trans swap in my prelude).
    But never a clutch.

Welcome to TW, changing the clutch can be a little challenging but not difficult and better yet you have mechanical skill so it shouldnt be hard at all for you, just take your time keep all the bolts and remember where they go back, if you got something extra YOUR SCREWED lol nah

It's an 89 Toyota Pickup. I got some stuff done to it.. FJ axles going under it soon.
I can do a clutch in a 4x4 Tacoma in about a total of 8 hours(including bullshitting and drinking beer)
    A 2wd Tacoma in about 6

I work in HVAC. Auto technicians don't get paid shit. ;)

A person with basic mechanical skills can do it in about the same time, or a little more.

Over the course of a Saturday and Sunday..or just a full Saturday..start at 8 am..finish it up around 3-4PM.

It's just more work because front driveshaft and carrying the heavy SOB tranny with the t-case.

    Welcome to TW from Orlando!

He only wants $1,500 for a '97 4x4? I would check that thing over very well, get a Carfax on it, etc...

Yep it looks like hell. Torn seats, bed all crinkled on the inside, even the tailgate is almost torn in two. Mice ate up the air filter, bald tires on the rear, front Are dryrotted.
The suspension is surprisingly tight, cv boots good, tie rod boots good and tight. Needs rear shocks, they are rusting apart.
    Exhaust is rusted apart.
Belts are coming apart. One is actually in half.
Oil is dArk and some sludge under the cap.
    All fluids dark.

    What do you guys think?

Wow - now I can see where he got the $1,500.

If you're ready to take that on, then go for it.

Something to keep in mind, is even though it seems miniscule, the mice damage could end up being more than just the air filter. Those bastards can destroy wiring, insulation, hoses and basically anything that isn't metal. Just a heads up from personal experience.

Let us know what you decide to do!

I'd buy it for $1000 and beat the piss out of it till it blew up.

    It's gone.
I was at the beach and couldn't get it and the guy sold it.
So I guess I can't sell you the airbox :p

Oh well, I'm convinced anyways. I really like the way the 2.7 feels with the manual trans. I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled for another one.
