Got it from ehobbies.com since the local hobby stores didn't have it. It's called Pactra RC window tint.

So I had some free time today and I saw this thread this morning. My tail lights had been tinted and clear coated before, but it had been quite some time since then. Clear coat was chipping and I couldn't take it anymore so I gave the wet sanding and rubbing compound/wax a shot and got great results. Great write-up Phantom!

I did mine a few months ago too. Pretty much the same steps. IMO the real key is to take your time in the sanding/polishing.

From my experience, I can tell you that if you're sanding to a 2000 grit, you can skip the rubbing compound and go right to polishing compound, then wax.

Rubbing compound is actually more abrasive than 2000 grit wet/dry sand paper.

The "buffing out" process really comes down to this: replacing big scratches with smaller scratches, and smaller scratches, and smaller scratches...... Eventually the scratches get too small for the human eye to detect.

Well...there are various kinds/levels of rubbing compounds and the courser rubbing compounds are most likely more abrasive than the 2000 grit wet sand paper. I also had no need to use a polishing compound since the rubbing compound and wax brought the shine right back.

Thanks bro...I did notice Autozone sold Nite-shades. I actually opted for the Pactra since all the pics I saw of people using just 2 coats of Nite-Shades was way too dark for my taste. The Pactra was perfect for what I was shooting for.

I pulled her out the garage and took a couple quick pics of the phantom tails in the dark. I don't know about anyone else but I sure can't tell a difference :)

They look really sharp and while it is subtle, it does make a big difference in appearance. I think you got them just the perfect shade, TBH Im not a big fan of the super dark ones, or clear ones. Good photos too!
