First of all thanks to Jimmy for the information on the resistor pack for my AC blower motor...it works fine now...however I have changed my oil for a couple of times and obviously you have the maintenance required light that needs to be reset...so... I did not have my manual available so I did the quickest thing and called the Toyota service department...told them what year that I have... a 2006 PreRunner...and they said sure...reset it by turning the ignition to the off position...hold in the odometer reset button while it is showing trip A....hold it in for 5 seconds and it should it reset...obviously this did not work...so I had some work done on my Toyota and they reset it... I ask them again what was the correct procedure once again they told me the same thing.... go through the whole rigmarole...while showing trip A...this is freaking incorrect for the 2006 Tacoma Prerunner... it has to be sitting on the odometer reading while you're holding the damn reset button in...and thanks to the threads... I found the answer... what the hell is it with Toyota techs at Toyota in Huntersville, North Carolina...are they're just trying to get me to come up there to get more work done?? I'm really disappointed in them... but thanks to you all...God bless you and have a good day...HEY...it's my first Toyota...Peace out.

Well they screwed me over in the sense they gave me the wrong damn information about how to reset the maintenance required light... other than that they've been pretty good.

■Resetting the maintenance required reminder light (U.S.A. only)
After the required maintenance is performed according to the maintenance
schedule, please reset the reminder light.
To reset the data, follow the procedures described below:
Switch the display to the trip meter A when the engine is running.
    (P. 145)
Turn the engine switch to the LOCK position.
While pressing the ODO/TRIP button (P. 145), turn the engine
switch to the ON position. Continue to press and hold the button
    until the odometer displays 000000.
If the system fails to reset, the light will continue flashing.

I am thinking the same thing.

    1. You somehow either lose your owner's guide or were unwilling to go get it...

    2. Were unwilling to google this, via "reset maint required light toyota tacoma"

and when an idiot dealer gives you the correct procedure, leaving out the "turn switch on"

you have to vent? Do I have that right?

Owning a truck does incur some basic responsibilities... The google search will return written instructions, you tube videos showing how to do this, etc.

In reference to one of the replies the maintenance required light will not reset on a 2006 if it is sitting on the trip A reading... your odometer reading has to be showing in order for it to reset and it does not show 00000....it shows - - - - - ..... but thanks for the info

Okay I just returned and in reference to the response that Robert posted... no I did not have an owner's manual... it did not come with the vehicle and the dealer did not give me the correct procedure...I never said anything about leaving the switch on... the dealer gave me the incorrect procedure for a 2006 PreRunner and as far as Google and YouTube... at that point in time I had no internet capabilities but I appreciate your concern but perhaps you should read things before you make a comment... there must be something in the water down there in Alabummer.

You should read. I specifically said the dealer omitted the pretty obvious "turn ignition on step." You should also learn to write. You wrote this: " I did not have my manual available" which certainly implies you have it, it just was not handy or accessible..." Otherwise "I don't have a copy of the manual" is much more informative, since you like to pick on word choices.

But owner's manuals are available online. As is a service manual. Unless you bought the truck and changed the oil instantly, surely you had time to download some docs. Without the owner's manual, how do you have any idea of what service to perform, and when, etc???

The only thing in the water down here is whatever teaches us to pay attention to what we are doing rather than running around blindly with no clue about what step is next.

The reset procedure changed mid '11. It happens.

It's one reason I suggest folks be careful taking older vehicles to a dealer. Most line mechanics who do the basics are youngsters. They may be ASE badged up, marquee trained, etc., but guess what? They are trained on current year models and forward.

What they are successful with on older models are common items, common sense, research, learning from peers, etc. But it's highly unlikely they will be aware of peculiar quirks of older models. Just because they weren't there.

Shoot, I've even taught Honda techs about balance shaft seals and oil cooler gaskets in '90s models.

So, while it was a logical thought to call a dealer and ask for reset advise, you'd have probably gotten a better answer calling Jiffy Lube. You just happened to get a guy who only knew how to mess with '11 up.

However, as others have pointed out, it's a pretty basic matter. I'd have not embarrassed myself by whining about something I could find in other places. I save that for the big stupid stuff I do. Which is a decent life list. :anonymous:

The procedure the dealer gave you is the most common one for Toyota vehicles. But it's not the only one. And depending on who you actually spoke to makes a big difference, service writer, parts person, tech... But since all the dealers are the same based on a single instance.....
    Haha

This is correct! On the Tacoma up to the late year 2011 the meter had to on the Odometer to reset the Maint Req light.

In Late 2011 when they changed the speedometer face plate from red to white the procedure was changed where it has to be in Trip A in order to reset the Maint Req light.
