I really think this just needs to be said again (P0420/P0430 code workaround)

Anyone saying they got a boost in MPG after this is experiencing this because they are driving like grandma in fear that if they rip on it (like normal) the CEL will pop back on.

have no fear. The light is gone for the foreseeable future.

Thank you! I've been fighting a sporadic CEL on my 06 (270k miles) for either P0420 or 0171 lean code so I'm going to give this a shot.

At least in my case, I believe the anti foulers help "numb" the system over stringent requirements. The aftermarket cats don't have as much active metals. Under rare heavy demand conditions the o2 storage isn't quite enough. This is a documented issue. here is the condition that sets it. A demanding long/high speed run that taxes/maxes out the cats, then a hard pull puts the cats (even o.e.) over their limits. My particular po420 was a long 65 mph trip up the Seirra foothills (104/Copperopolis, ca), get into town and pull up the only big hill. Popped a code every time pre foulers.
