    Update on my search!

I have been patiently continuing my search for my Tacoma. I have opened up my search to Red, Black, White, and Silver. Just recently my local dealership received a 2015 DBLC TRD Sport in Red, and it reaaaallly looks good. They are asking $28,900, which is well out of budget now. But, red is now back on the table. I've come to terms that my budget and target mileage just aren't gonna agree. I really need to be in the $25k out the door range, with under 40k miles, but it seems I am asking a little too much.

I test drove a '14 TRD Sport Black, a few weeks back that was mint with 22k on the clock. Very nice truck. I couldn't get them down below $27,900, without taxes. Still a good deal, just not in my range right now. I have found quite a few in this range with similar mileage, so it seems that this is where they are living at price range right now.

I have not seen much of a price drop for trucks in the 40k-60k mileage trucks vs the sub 40k trucks. So, now I am extending my search to higher mileage trucks, in the 60-90k range and see what I can find.

Anyone have opinions on a truck with 90k on the clock? This particular one is a one owner, bough and serviced at the same dealership through its lifetime. Super clean looking truck, and it comes in under my budget. TRD Sport DCLB. I just have a hard time justifying spending 20k on a vehicle with almost 100k miles on it... but it is a Tacoma, so there is that.

Just blabbing and looking for opinions!

100k miles on one of these truck is still considered to be pretty low. That's why they do so well in holding their value.
Just think about your dad's with 300K. If you get a Taco with 90K miles on it, you'll be enjoying it for at least another 210k.

Stick to your budget. I don’t think 90k would be out of the question at all. Can you post a pic?

I like it. There are some simple things you could to do make it even better. Drop the nerf bars, AT tires, at some point some new wheels. I'd really consider getting that truck.

Nice looking truck. Just a little info, 2013 was the last year that they included the temperature reading and backup camera on the rearview mirror. The years after 2014 & 2015 they used the headunit on the dash to display these. Some argue that the temperature reading isnt as accurate on the 14 & 15 year models because it doesnt actually use the thermometer mounted behind the front of the grille.

Either way, cant go wrong with a taco and especially a barcelona red one like youre looking at! (I may be a tad biased though since i have that color).

Welcome aboard and let us know how everything turns out for you!

Ask to speak to the original owner. I see this dealership sold the truck new so they should have the info. You can use the VIN to check specs from when the truck was new here: https://www.toyota.com/owners/vehicle-specification . Also, if you add this VIN to your personal Toyota Owners garage, you can see all of the work done by Toyota dealers. I'm not a big fan of Auto Check, but I haven't found a way to a free CarFax on the truck you're looking for just yet. Talking to the previous owner goes a long way toward peace of mind.

Thanks for the info everyone! @rjbiii , I noticed those things while looking through the thousands of trucks I've looked at, but didn't know about the thermometer accuracy issue. Doesn't bother me its off, but nice to know!

In other news, I should change my name to Eggo, because I waffle so damn much. I'm seriously contemplating the truck they have at my local dealership. Pretty much the exact same truck. Its a 2015 with 40k miles. Also has a bed mat and a Undercover bed cover, which I would likely sell. Also a 1 owner bought at the same dealer.

The 90k on the other Tacoma doesn't bother me that much, but with a difference of 50k miles, that's a good 3 years worth of driving (in miles anyways).

I've got a scheduled time to check out the local one this afternoon, so I will see if they are willing to move any on the price. It would be reeeeaaallly tempting at 27k.

Not a 100% sold on red, but then again I'm not sold on anything, except wanting a Tacoma

Talking, err, typing out loud helps me think, thanks for listening.

Oh, and by the way, its a BOY!!! :amen: Nothing against girls, and we would have been just as happy, but both my wife and I wanted to have a boy first, so we are pretty excited about that.

Definitely want a girl too. Wife always wanted a big brother so that's why she wanted a boy first, so that's cool.

I test drove the local one yesterday, and it felt super solid (do any of them not? lol). The things I really are the black running boards and it's super clean. I could maybe find 2 spots that were scratched, and neither were bad at all. Looks like one on the corner of the rear bumper had just a bit of touch up paint on it. Unfortunately they would not budge at all on the price, so I walked. I would have seriously considered if they knocked off 1k.

Planning on checking out the one with 90k on it Saturday. Wife isn't too keen on spending $20k on a truck with 90,000 miles on it, and frankly neither am I. But, I'll check it out and see how it feels. It is right in the budget wheelhouse, actually a bit below what I was planning on spending, but then again it's got a lot more miles that the other one.

I also found another red one in Indiana with 18k on it. They have it at $29,999. I may give them a call and see if they will deal on it at all.

    The saga continues...

If it helps your decision-making I bought my 2010 TRD OR ACLB in May this year with 190k on it and it was mint, only thing it has needed maintenance wise was filters but that's to be expected. I paid just under 16k out the door from a dealer in TN, it had a good paper trail and one owner. Tacoma's hold their value like none other. Take a look at 1st gen prices, people are getting 8k or more for clean trucks under 150k miles for something 20 years old!!!

Good luck and welcome to the family!
