I want to be a "Service" person at a Toyota dealership so I can get away with not doing shit. I went in to Beaverton Toyota in Beaverton Oregon for my first 5000 mile service (included free when I bought my truck). I told them I wanted synthetic oil and told them I wanted the rear leaf TSB done. She said she would look into the TSB and call me back. She called me about 1 hour later and told me there was no problem with my truck, that it had bottomed out a few times but the springs were "OK". I asked her how the springs were ok if it had bottomed out? I told her about the TSB and she called me back to tell me it only applied if the ride was harsh when the truck was "Unloaded". I explained to her that the TSB said the exact oposite and gave her the TSB number and page number. She "found" that section so all was good. She told me they would order the parts. She called me back about 30 minutes later and told me I couldn't get it done because I had the TRD Sport package. UGH! I had to then point her to the section of the TSB that mentioned what to do for the TRD models.

I want a job where the customer does all the work!

I think jaded would be a better word.

OP sorry about your issue, but sometimes people are just stupid.

And also remember that most service advisors know nothing about fixing cars or how to interpret TSB's that are written my automotive engineers. I'm a mechanic at a dealership and we have a running joke in the shop calling all the service advisors McDonalds order takers. They have no idea what a car really needs without someone else telling them that it should be done.

I inquired about the same TSB and was told I had to bring my truck in under a load and demonstrate the problem. This was after I told them that the truck bottomed out with my ATV in the back. For the record, I have a 2010 TRD OR Double Cab and this was at Florence Toyota in SC.

Brought mine in (Sport mind you) and my service advisor was fully aware of it. He said "The truck rode harsh with your motorcycle in the back right?" I responded with "It rode fine but it did drop a bit much IMHO for just a supermoto in the back." He than replied with, "So it was a harsh ride" while winking. By that time the hamster in the wheel in my head woke up and I replied with, "Uh yeah it rode like crap." He also checked the reflash TSB for me to while I was there just to find out my truck had it done already and even recommended a shop I could get the parts for a lift too. So no complaints from me about my service advisor.

Dude, good luck. I had the exact same issue. I ended up going to Lowes and loaded it up with 15 bags x80lb quickrete concrete mix. They really gave me a hard time.
First time I got denied I called Toyota and had them log a case to push the service folks there. That didn't do jack for me. They kept insisting I come back under load to demonstrate the need for the work.

They suck. I wish I had bought my truck from another dealership. I had to convince them to do the Transmission TSB after I bought the truck as well. I know the dealership in Charleston is supposed to be good to deal with but I would hate to go there since I didn't buy the truck from there.

They get paid from corporate no matter where you go. Don't feel bad.
I bought my truck from Columbia because they had what I wanted, and ended up going to Florence for the TSB.

I went in with 3 TSBs I wanted done and wound up with an estimate for $2500 in optional repairs. Totally gave up on the entire system right there.

Sold my truck Jan '13... Still hang around.
My TSB story (which starts here, and goes a couple of posts onto the next page) is almost exactly the same. If you know what you're talking about when you go in, you just have to keep saying it until they finally figure it out. I had to deal with two different guys... I even made sure to bring my truck in on a day the first guy wasn't working b/c I didn't want there to be any chance he would mess it up.

make sure and print out any TSB's you want done when you go in. that way they cant say they dont know anything about it. tell them you are having the exact same problems the TSB is concerning.

God forbid that a consumer has to educate themselves on issues with their vehicle. What's wrong with toyota, why don't they also call me when it's time to change my oil and rotate my tires don't they know I deserve it! LOL

You guys crack me up, always complaining about service and what not. Do you really think that the "service writers" are going to know every detail about every TSB on every model? Granted the OP experience seem like the person wasn't doing their job (to reseach the issue once it was brought to their attention) but that no excuse for not being informed about it yourself. I don't get this attitude that when there's an issue you should simply be able to drop the truck off at Toyota and it come back fixed without providing some history on the issue and the research you've already done. Why make it hard on the tech? You get nothing but a bad experience and become jaded.

OP this is not directed at you, I think you did what any informed consumer should do. Good job :)

i did not have any problems getting mine done at beechmont toyota here in cincinnati. I did bring the tsb with me when i dropped off the truck. took 2 days to get the parts in and they were installed the next day. i was actually really surprised it was so easy.

Man I got lucky I guess. Every time I go to get anything done I always go to the same service writer and he sends my truck to the same two technicians depending on what it is in for. Toyota of Richardson has won my whole families trust...everyone bought a Toyota after I did.
