I prefer the I4 for fuel economy. If I was going to get a more powerful motor I would just skip the V6 and go straight for a V8...preferably diesel.

the 6 cyl is the way to go, well for me at least, i go offroading alot, but if your just using it to commute why not get the 4 cyl.

I used to have a regular cab v8 silverado and honestly this v6 will keep up with the v8 easily

The 4cyl has way less moving parts. Part of the reason toyotas last so long is that they are kind of underpowered for the chassis, suspension and drive train. I have almost 200k on my 98. transmission started messing up at 55k (knocking sound in reverse) so I drove it until reverse went out at 175k. I don't know a single person with a 4cyl who is unhappy with it. I know quite a few folks who have blown up their V6. My buddy bought my old tacoma and started doing work to increase the power. He has replaced clutch X2, and is getting ready to do the rear end.

i had a 2001 extra cab prerunner auto with the 4 banger
and averaged 17 town mpg & 19 hwy mpg

i had a 2006 prerunner double cab auto with the 6 banger
an averaged 19 town mpg & 21 hwy mpg

i now have a 2010 prerunner double cab auto with the 6 banger
and so far average around 19 hwy mpg & 21 hwy mpg

my wife has a 2004 rav4 auto with the 4 banger
she has put 138k miles on it so far
and averages 29 town mpg and 32 hwy mpg
its a good thing it gets excellent mpg with all that driving
it also has all the original brakes - never been touched
had them inspected last week and still good

the bottoms of her feet have roadburn though

I like the I4. I did a couple donuts today. Pulled out on the road and layed 20 ft of rubber on the asphalt.:bananadance::burnrubber:

one thing i like about my v6 is i can hardly tell powerwise if the a/c is on or not. i can't speak for toyota's 4 banger, but my previous nissan 2.4l 4 banger was slow as hell when the a/c was on and i could even feel the compressor kick on and off while i was driving.
