Is anyone else having a problem with ice building up in the bottom of the front fenders/door jamb? Every time it freezes and thaws here in Ontario I get a block of ice forming inside the door jamb. When i try to open the door, the front bottom corner of the door is blocked by the ice and the door won't open very far at all. Seems like a drainage problem from snow and ice melting on the cowl and running into the bottom of the fenders. Never had this with my 2014 Tacoma in the 3 years I had it.

Paint is chipping off the front edge of both doors from the ice built up and rubbing when the door is opened.

on my last VW there was a TSB for this. there were repeated reports of the damage you describe to the bottom of the door panel. so they made foam molded pieces one per side, to be adhered to that inside corner where the ice collects.

that's not entirely helpful, but it may give you something to work with. the pieces were about the size & shape of a small banana. you could easily craft something as an experiment.

I had this problem with my Tundra, you have to get all of the snow off of it when it snows or else it melts and freezes in the doors. I love winter but it can be a PIA!

I’ve haven’t had this problem with my Tacoma. Can you take some photos so that I can check my truck to see if anything looks different?

Throw on some mudflaps or steps. It'll save you from rocks as well.

Damn that sucks! Can’t say I’ve had an issue with this, is it from the truck sitting a couple days with the snow on it?

Few years ago February it didn’t get above freezing the entire month, my subi would sit with snow on it during the day and the sun was just warm enough to melt some of it. The water would drain thru the sunroof drain tubes and freeze down by the fender, eventually it backed up and I had water coming thru my map lights!

It isn't building up on the outside, its inside the fender/door jamb every time it thaws a little then refreeze. When the door is open you can see the black Styrofoam inside the back, inside edge of the fender, its building up in there where the front bottom corner of the door would go behind the fender when the door opens. I will post pictures tomorrow in the daylight.

I'm in Brighton. I remember that year, I kept a bottle of yellow HEET with me so I could get the door to my gas cap to open when I went to fill it up! Didn't do much for the paint...

On topic, if mudguards fixes this issue, that seems the way to go.

I have the same problem with both my trucks if I leave any snow on them. I’ve melted it with a heat gun but it’s a pain

Pic above is inside the passenger door, ice forming on the front edge of the rockers, below the door hinges inside the fender.

Probably best remedy would be to make sure you keep it cleaned off, it’s safer for you and other drivers going down the road anyway.

I know it’s a pain in the ass when it snows every day and you aren’t necessarily driving it, but if it’s damaging your paint it’s probably worth the hassle.

Wow, that's a lot more ice than I was thinking of... some temporary foam tape to redirect the water away from the jams? Something easy to remove in springtime? I don't know of any such products but someone else might?

This happens in a 2006 Chevy 1500 I'm driving right now. Doors are hard to open in the morning because they're basically frozen shut.

Can't wait to get my truck back.
