Ideas wanted for plugging space between skid plate and bumper

So I was happy with the TRD skid plate and how it perfectly matched up to the factory front bumper. Then I put on a real front bumper and now the skid plate has a 2'ish inch gap. I'm not wanting to get branches and brush and dirt packed in there when playing. Anyone have easy ideas for what to do about this?

My only idea is to drill a few holes along the top of the skid plate lip and then buy a strip of tire rubber and bolt it on from the inside since the black rubber will also prevent oncoming traffic from seeing that opening and laughing at me. :pout:

When I'm 4-wheeling, in my mind's eye I can just see that lip scooping up gallons of mud or snow and packing it in there nice and tight...................bleh.

In my experience, not much gets in there... short of that, buy an aftermarket skid that closes off that space.

Does the bumper company offer a skid plate ?
I think some other aftermarket companies skid plates are a bit bigger( longer) than OEM also . your idea will probably also work . Good luck .

Buy a real skid. The factory splash plate won't do you much good

@CygnusX191 that is the TRD aftermarket TRD aluminium "Pro" skid, not the stock black steel tin.

    2017 Tacoma OR 4x4 (formerly 2002 OR 4x4, 1995 4x4 4Runner, 1985 4x4 Toy PU) ... and RIP’s (rust in pieces) to a Bronco II 4x4 & S10 Blazer 4x4
Personally, I would be worried also about it being a sticks, mud and gravel scoop. It’s not easy to clean off the top of any skid plate and you don’t want stuff that can burn up there. It looks like RCI has a skid plate that better fits their bumper, I’d clean up and sell the TRD skid plate for it.

If you really wanted to go get some flat aluminum from a hardware store and drill holes and put button head bolts through it.

I ran into the same issue when I added a bumper. After looking at a bunch of options that all looked tacky and finding it to be nothing less of a scoop for mud snow etc... I replaced it and new looked back.

Those things are heavy and annoying. Def better than the gravel shield from the other trims though

Aluminum makes for not great armor. Not bad if you're not crawling though

Correct. Fixed post. Was referring to how it was a Toyota-made "factory" skid plate, no biggie.

For 98% of us aluminum is more than sufficient. Even then iv seen some guys hammer on these okx skids and they have held up surprisingly well.

Yeah it’s just to fill the space that is what my suggestion was for not for strength or protection.
