What are the guess's on in town MPG, I wouldn't even consider a Diesel unless it knocked out 25 in town+30 on the highway, for the extra initial cost, maintance( fuel filters ) and higher price fuel, #1 or blended in the winter it would not be worth it.

This is a useless discussion. No really knows anything. Toyota hasn't said anything official. It's all rumor.

Mihandra was supposed to start selling their diesel trucks here. Not sure if economy or emissions soured that.

New York and California have extra emission requirements that make it even harder to get a diesel approved.

Let's just have Toyota sell the Hilux Diesel in the Tacoma in every state but California and NY. I know plenty of fellow Oregonian's who would be down. We'll buy two just to make sure Toyota feels justified. Sorry Cal and NY.

A Lawsuit is what is holding up Mahindra right now. Global Import had some kind of sweetheart deal with Mahindra and when Mahindra realized they could make more money another way they used the delay tactics to try and run out the contract. It didn't work....Now the U.S. company is sueing them for it....guess we'll just have to wait and see.

    I'd trust the overseas Land Cruiser 4.5L 1VD-FTV V8 diesel before some other company's. 479 lb-ft @ 1600-2600 rpm, 23 mpg:

I've always wondered why Caterpillar hasn't struck a deal and put a diesel in a full size light truck. They are well known and it would be some positive branding.

Dodge/Ram did well putting in a known brand of Cummins. Duramax is a good engine, but at first I was skeptical because it was from Suzuki. Ford's own Powerstoke has been a good engine also. I really don't think there is a bad engine of the bunch. I've seen each last for many 1000's of miles. The other truck parts wear out before the engine. Sure, someone will say "I had a friend that had a ------- and it was a -------." Even my friends Cummins blew the turbo at 75,000 miles but I still think the Cummins is a decent engine.

Duramax is from Isuzu, which knows a thing or two about designing diesel engines.

Not all diesel engine mfrs know how to downsize an engine for the light truck market. Ford initially got their Powerstroke engines from International, which suffered major problems. Ford's current Powerstroke engines are designed and built in-house and are relatively reliable.

    also i want this one

The 1KD-FTV is a 3.0L (2982cc) straight-4 common rail diesel engine with a variable geometry turbocharger and Intercooler. It has 16 valves and a DOHC (double overhead camshaft) design. Bore is 96 mm and stroke is 103 mm. It generates 170 hp (127 kW) at 3400 rpm, and 260 lbf·ft (352 N·m) of torque at 1800-3400 rpm. Redline of this engine is at 4200 RPM. Compression ratio is 17.9:1.
This engine uses Toyota's D-4D Common Rail fuel injection technology operating at ultra high pressures of up to 135 mpa (1350 bar or about 19,580 psi) which is about 8 times more than the pressure of conventional fuel injection systems within a "common rail" that feeds the injectors on all four cylinders. This is combined with a 32-bit ECU which controls fuel quantity, valve-timing, and boost pressure at different engine parameters resulting in best fuel economy and also full utilization of power during acceleration. Pilot injection is also utilized by the common rail fuel system to smooth engine operation. Small amounts of fuel are introduced into the combustion chamber prior to the main injection event, reducing lag time and promoting more continuous and complete combustion. Exterior and interior engine noise is also reduced.
The 1KD engine produces 17% more power with 11% less fuel consumption than its predecessor, the 1KZ engine
