How could you justify spending 20k on that.

I could see it if you reeealllllyyyyyyy wanted a diesel and your 4.0 just blew up or something but throwing away a perfectly good engine for that seems like such a waste.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
    20k buys sooooo much gas!

I like the performance figures for the Ram 1500 diesel. 240hp, 420 ft lbs torque, 28mpg highway. Stuff that into a Tacoma with the 8spd auto and even the common sense part of me might be swayed to deal with the inconviences and pay the premium knowing the pay back is questionable.

I have heard rumors but is it official for a 1500 diesel?
Its too bad the truck will likely fall apart like ever other ram so far.

Autoguide has a review on the 2014 Ram EcoDiesel and if I could figure out how to copy and paste the address on this iPad I'd save you the trouble of a search.

The engine was developed by Italian VM Motori. The company is owned by both GM and Fiat. The engine design and developement was originally commissioned to go into a Cadillac (excuse my while I control my gag reflex) but not used. VM retained the rights to the engine and is able to supply it to any manufacturer that wants it.

Curious if there is a trend emerging where more and more power train components will be developed by specialists for use in multiple platforms of multiple manufactures.

not a new trend, accept the italian part.

I think maybe the US guys sat down and that "who makes worse stuff than us, that isn't china" and now we have a pile of new italian crap coming this way..

HOPEFULLY the diesel wont fit into that category :)

    Some stuff...
Yup, a colleague overseas was issued a diesel Hilux qud-cab Toyota, pictured next to another buddies Nissan Patrol.

Also, I think the Chevy in the last pic is a mid-sized diesel.

I would chose a 4bd1t or 4bd2t it an Isuzu engine they are a 3.1L displacement and would probably not be heavier than the 4.0 V6 that tacoma has as an option. They make an bolt up kit that lets you bolt ant chevy trans to it so the trans would probably be an 700R4.
