    I have a question.

Toyota is replacing the frame on my '05. Here's the story:
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/303962-toyota-replacing-frame-my-05-a.html

This is the third week it has been in the shop and it has given me too much time to think about it. (My wife went by last week and saw the bed on rollers out behind the shop.)

Did those of you who had your frames replaced by Toyota have any ongoing issues afterwards.

I know they have done quite a few by this time and should have lots of experience but I was thinking how involved this process must be to take the whole truck apart and put it back together.

Is there anything in particular that I should be on the lookout for?

mine was replaced a year before i bought it along with most of the suspension. The previous owner who was the first and only other owner before me said it felt better than before. Said the truck was clunky and loose but after the frame and suspension it felt tight. As for me, It's been great. Never had an issue with it since i owned it.

    Pretty much stock right now
My 01 came out of the frame replacement better than ever. it's the spunkiest little 2.7 ever. I had already done the suspension over just a few thousand miles before, so I kept the OME 880 coils, RC shocks, 5 leaf springs (about a 2 inch lift). My only complaint is the sight lean to the driver's side.

My dealer had done over a hundred replacements, and advised several other fixes while everything was apart. (I had a leaky rear main engine seal) They did want to do about a $1,000 in other repairs which I did not allow.

No mechanical issues in the year since the replacement. Been driving it every day this week due to the snow. No regrets at all.

Bump, curious myself. Taking mine within the next few weeks.

But 3 weeks they have had it?

A friend of mine used to work for toyota and used to do the frame replacements. He said it takes two days to complete it and a third day to check it over, alignment etc.

I'm a little concerned about the time also. They showed me a pile of rusted frames out back that they have done and said that Toyota cut them back on time because they do it so fast. I didn't want to bug them so I haven't been calling . I'm calling today.

We have had a few storms since it went in so we have snow on the ground now. The loaner Corolla they gave me is a little sketchy in it and I would feel much safer in the Tacoma. We have another storm coming this weekend.

Toyota usually does an excellent job replacing frames 1st, or 2nd ten tacoma. Or tundra or 4runner or sequoia. Don't worry about it, just keep an ear open for any strange sounds and you should be fine

    Thanks.

I just got off the phone with the shop and found out why the delay.

There was a mix-up with the frames. They got a frame, but it was for a 2WD. Toyota sent mine to a dealer 60 miles north and it took them over a week to figure out a way to swap them (The guy at the shop wasn't pleased).

He said not to worry because the guy doing mine has done 400 of them!!

I should have it the first of next week.

    Can't wait.

Just a bunch of old crap
Why is there another thread for this? Just ask this question in the first one you started.

Quit fishing for "congrats on your new frame"

Because the other thread is in the 2nd gen section.

There are a lot more 1st gen trucks that have had their frames replaced (You did know there was a recall on 1st gen frames, right?) and I wanted to know what to look out for.

Didn't think it would bother anyone and I'm not looking for congrats.

What got your drivetrain in a twist??

What is a 2 gener like you doing reading a 1st gener post anyway?? :)

I just bought y '04 Tacoma, which had the frame replaced when it was traded in. The only related issue I had was they missed the frozen emergency brake bell cranks. The e-brake was totally nonfunctional. Since they had replaced the e-brake cables, I would have expected them to at least check to see if it worked.

All it cost me was a couple hours under the truck with some penetrating oil, a hammer, and a pry bar, so not a big deal, just irritating.

That might be something you want to ask them to check.

Is it true you get all new brake lines, fuel lines, spare tire holder(recall for that) and control arms? Plus, anything that breaks or is non functional is their responsibility? That is what someone told me, just confirming if that is true.

On my 02, new brake lines, spare tire carrier, load sensing proportioning valve, lower control arms, leaf springs and shackles, brake fluid flush, ac recharge, and alignment! Tons of free shit
