If you weren't going to buy a Tacoma

    what would you buy?

Not sure if I'm going to stay with Toyota any longer. Currently own a 2010 with the bad clutch that Toyota won't replace, have gotten a notice on rear springs rusting and breaking and then there are rusted frames.

The clutch irks me to no end. From the day it was new it slips when temps are below 30 in the winter. And Toyota tells me it's a wear item and is my problem.

So, if you were in the market for a mid size truck what would you buy if not a Tacoma or Tundra?

I didn't look into any other trucks besides Chevy Colorados and Ford Rangers. I can tell you just by driving those and a Taco, the Taco wins out in almost every way. Even though it has it's flaws, it's more sophisticated than those. I never test drove a honda or a nissan, though I am intersted in the frontier. in 10 years, when I'm ready for another truck I'll test drive the frontier.

    ^^^ This.

It's not that the Tacoma is the holy grail of all vehicles, but there is literally nothing else out there worth buying.

There were some things I didn't like about it, but in general they were minor and it was very close to the Tacoma.

if the clutch slipped when cold from day one, it is a defective clutch issue and dealer should repair. Sorry about your troubles with the Tacoma, I ran the clutch on my 94 toy pickup from new until I sold it at 12 years and 217k miles.

WRX. It's not a truck, but it's what I'd buy.

My wife drive a '13 WRX hatchback, 5 speed and we love it...My only real complaint is that to change the oil, the vehicle has to be jacked and a plastic panel with 6 or 8 different fasteners has to be removed to access the filter. It needs it this weekend:)

My wife also complains that when passengers exit they often making a sigh or grunting sound due to the ergonomics.

Oh yea, it needs a set of summer tires when the snows come off...

I traded my 2007 Tacoma for an F150 and am happy with that decision. I needed something a little bit bigger but it does have a lot of nice features that aren't available on the Tacoma. I went with the 5.0L V8 rather than the Ecoboost for longevity purposes. We'll see how it holds up.

I came from a 2004 f150 to the Tacoma. If i were in the full size market again, id go back to Ford, but i probably wont for a long time, i'm completely satisfied with my Tacoma.

If I were in the full size market, I'd go directly to the Tundra.

Well with OPs original post, he said Toyotas were'nt an option. Now yes from any manufacturer, id definitely go with a Tundra all day!

I would as well, but Ford would be second choice. Don't think I'd seriously consider any others. Maybe the Titan if it proves to be reliable in its next generation.
