What vehicle to buy other than a Tacoma?

Who knows...funny how we tend to hung up on vehicles...while we just need something to haul our shit around.

I dunno fellas...if it has tits or wheels it is gonna give a trouble. ;)

If not the Tacoma, it'd be the 4Runner or Audi Allroad.

I am in the market to replace my 2010 Tacoma. Not impressed with the 2016 Tacoma looks. Will probably get the GMC Canyon SLT. Has all the bells and whistles I'm looking for and don't need off road capability.

For those who ditch GM service I know for a fact they are on the Colorado/Canyon boards and quickly respond to owners complaints/jconcerns! When has anyone from Toyota been on this board doing the same thing?

Again to me front end is much better than many other trucks. One of the pluses is simple line for the bumper which means replacing it with something sturdier is going to be easy with out some crazy fabrication. It actually looks good. In right color its goign to look very good.
There is never enough Towing capacity, if they give it I take it. Plus I am suspectign Nissan wants to win some customers so this maybe very well loaded Nissan for cheap price with Diesel. And going with simple V8 Turbo Diesel is never wrong approach. Its going to tow for sure. We see what Payload its goign to have but If I dont go with F150 or 250 this is going to be on my list for sure. I hope they dont screw up and don't pull Toyota on people. Toyota stop offering mechanical limited slipp or locker with Tundra which is a mistake. If I dotn have one of these getting home in winter would be tricky. Electronic traction control is garbage in winter, I need something I can depend on it.

Yea the electronic traction control sucks with the limit on power. Not too bad when the limiting of power is off. But its one of those things that try as they might electronic gizmos don't always replace mechanical ones.

Thats one of my biggest issues with Toyota path. They have very well build mechanical systems but in US they choose to abandon everything they learned somewhere else and build pussy truck.

Lack of things like metal bumper, manual hubs and manual transfer case, front/rear lockers as factory options is simply stupid, unless they think they can continue competing in passenger car category. I would think building wimpy Tundra that sells like crap would have made them learn their lesson. Buying $50k truck and running to after market shop next day to install locker is simply stupid.
Can it be done, ? Yes, Should it be done ? No.

Agreed. But they have the market research, and as Americans the majority are more interested in gizmo's and tech than a machine. SO we will probably never see what the rest of the world does..

Agreed. And while I agree with the point below, I have another issue. My wife's 07 Rav4 (that we traded for a pathfinder) was marketed as "4WD". When we got it we realized "4WD" was really 2WD, with a button to engage the rear axle up to 25mph. Or basically to get you out of the driveway, parking lot, or ditch you slid into. Never mind the fact that the system disabled itself over any little trouble code, it was was damn near worthless when it WAS working!! :frusty:

Now, market studies have affected that configuration as mentioned below, but there are PLENTY of selectable/full time 4WD and AWD SUVS and other vehicles out there so it's like Toyota took a step back. Our 1 year newer Pathfinder has a 4WD switch like the Tacoma. The newer SUVS we looked at were AWD with various terrain selection setups. People must still want the option to lock into 4WD and leave it there at whatever speed if tons of other vehicles still have that option even if it's the electronic vs manual option.

You're probably right. They admitted in the press release that there was a Titan and a Titan XD chassis. They weren't just trim packages. I'm guessing it's a different frame with possibly beefier axles.

The regular Titan had a v6 and v8 option while the XD has a v8 gas and diesel option.

The problem is what percentage of truck owners use the rear locker or even know that it's there? Sure on this website people know because a lot of people here offroad but for the average person they don't even know the difference between AWD and 4WD. I have a couple of examples.

We have an FX4 F250 at work with a locking rear, do you know how many times I've had to remind stuck employees with that truck that the rear locker is available to help them get out? No one here even knew why the 4WD could pop out or what the light on the dash meant when they did it .

The other example is my brother. He's had trouble finding his way so to speak so my mom and dad basically pass him down a used vehicle every couple of years for free to try and help him out. Anyways one time we are talking about money and he goes off about how crazy I am to dump money into my Tacoma when his used Ford Edge can do almost everything my truck can. To this day he believes his Edge and his wifes Escape are 4WD vehicles :p, even when they get stuck in a tiny snow drift. He just kept pointing to the little 4WD emblem on the back of his wifes Escape exclaiming "see, ford wouldn't put that there if the truck wasn't 4WD!!!!"

Anyways my point is that the auto companies aren't making as many vehicles anymore for the hardcore offroader. Now they make these AWD vehicles for mom and pop when they have a snow drift in there driveway. Everyone seems to feel safer when all of the wheels have power right? The funny part is that no one ever tells them that there AWD systems usually don't have the ability to lock anything up, so they really have a one wheel drive vehicle :D.

Toyota Market research when it comes to Trucks can not be that good than.
They getting their ass kicked in full size category.
Tacoma sells but when was released it was biggest strongest "small" truck on the market.
So called 3gen (2.1 more likely) is coming in different environment. Why buy Tacoma if F150 is as efficient, as Tacoma, and can tow more and have much bigger payload, it has more mechanical options too like mechanical lockers, limited slip and front limited slip.
Size is almost the same except F150 is taller.
Maybe thats why Ford sells 70 000 F series trucks a month compare that to Tacoma and Tundra.

Thats why its an option, not everybody will need and use it. But a lot of people do need and uses. I take locker over $400 tow truck bill anytime.
If your employee does not know what he is driving you either need to get them retrained or need new employee.
Still the point is Tundra has no longer e-locker as the option. So those that need one not going to look at Tundra. Simple as that. Hence there goes the sale.

That comment about a one-wheel drive is so true. I have a love-hate thing for AWD systems. The one in the Subaru STI is pretty amazing just because it has a mechanical limited slip at the center, front and rear diffs so you can really put down the power. Nothing quite as fun as that car in the winter purely because of the ability to lock up all 4 tires under power and just rotate around corners... Oddly enough my mom hates it in the winter when she borrows it because it'll step out from her under power (no shit, right?). She's used to the cushy traction-controlled, stability controlled AWD system in the Jeep Grand Cherokees where you can literally floor it and you won't break traction (for more than half a second) and can power through anything... But wheel for wheel it's putting down way less traction to the road.
