I wouldn't count on Tacoma always dominating these things. My gut feeling is Toyota isn't much better than anyone else quality wise anymore. That's coming from someone who loves there 2013 Tacoma.

If you out grow the Tacoma you can just have two trucks lol. That's what I have anyways. I need a truck for work and the company provides one for free, so I have a 2014 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 for towing and heavy loads and I keep my 2013 S/C Tacoma around for fun and for tax purposes.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
Yes, there are benefits of both.

On average real world F150's still get worse MPG than real world Tacoma's.

Real world f150 offers slightly more utility than Tacoma.

And offroad, ESPECIALY in tight places the Tacoma wins every time. As with parking.

They are both good trucks with good and bad sides.

Dollar for dollar the f150 is more truck. That doesn't make it a better choice if you don't need MORE truck.

What ever fits your needs and wants best is what you should pick.

    LOLZ.

I agree with the rest, but you are really stretching it with that statement in bold. My point was you tried to say the F150 isn't twice the truck stats wise as a Tacoma, when really it is .

Damn, well I have not checked 2015 specs. And we don't know 2016 Tacoma specs to compare.

But for 2005 the specs were not that high, and the Tacoma has not changed since.

That is pretty impressive for a SPEC sheet one 2015.

Yeah, and if my experience with our work fleet counts for anything, the F150 will actually be able to handle max payload just fine as long as you adjust your driving for it.

Lol well yeah you are correct. The new one basically is. And that is pretty impressive.

Average up until now with the new F150, they have not been that much more of a truck.

In all reality the 1/2 ton truck is growing into a viable option. Up until now there has not been enough of a step between Tacoma and 3/4 capability for me to look at a half ton.

I think the f150 fleet vehicles have been great overall.

All the gimmick BS that is added to most non work fleet F150's is what I don't like myself. Like the platinum and that hideous shit all over it. :)

Also it is worth noting that the most of the F150 max tow rating applies only to the 2wd v8 model with automatic and heavy duty tow packages.. I am not sure for 2015 though.

The 4x4 models are lower, which is all I personally have ever looked at.

It's possible that at some point I will get audited by CRA for my work/personal mileage on my work truck. I keep a detailed log and my employer collects the appropriate taxable benefit for my Ram, but my Tacoma is one additional piece of evidence that the Ram is not my main or only personal mode of transportation. I've had friends audited. Having a personal vehicle with mileage on it helps avoid paying more tax if audited.

^^ This is what I'm looking at. I don't trail ride. It takes too much effort to find any sort of "trail" around here. Most of them are season use roads that have minimal maintenance. So no plowing in the winter, and the occasional grading during summer to fix wash outs. Most can be handled by stock Tacomas, so probably not a challenge for an F150 that's really not that much larger. :( I bought the truck to do trails in 2006, only to find out damn near every trail truck guys USED to run were barricaded off after 9/11. So I haven't be offroad more than a dirt road or driveway since shortly after I got the truck. I do, however, have a compact tractor and trailer that I tow several times a year, haul hay for my animals, haul furniture, and lumber. So a bigger truck is actually welcomed.

Yup. Like you said, looking at double the specs (if I equip it that way) with about the same MPG. I figure a 2-3 MPG difference based on Fuelly numbers which I'm sure vary with towing, bed load, mountains, etc. I get around 18 with the Tacoma unloaded regardless of what I do unless I'm racing it. Towing drops to 14 so if the F150 takes less of a hit towing due to more HP and torque, then I'm ahead of the game a little. Not to mention better brakes, which is what I *REALLY* need coming down the mountains around me.

Agreed! It's 2014 and they're still replacing frames for christ's sake! Granted mine hasn't snapped in half yet, but it's still bad enough to warrant them putting $12k into a truck worth $10-$12k maybe. I think a lot of people on here have complained about the poor paint jobs, and my tailgate rusted through above the handle so I can attest to that. Rear bumper rusted out, locker rusted out, timing cover is leaking oil, compass/temp display needs to be fixed for the 3rd time, 3 or 4 wheel bearings, 1 rear leaf TSB to add a leaf for strength and now a recall because they still break, engine ticking, 7 pin located below the bumper on OR models (torn off the first week of ownership), no cargo lights for the bed.

All that really makes me question "Toyota Quality" now, and after owning a truck for 9 years it really makes me look for things to get or avoid in my next truck. And the F150 meets a lot of those criteria, despite all the Found On Road Dead jokes I've made in the past.

That's another thing I'm looking at. The payload of the Tacoma was supposedly rated at 1100lbs last time I checked for the DCSB, but factory leafs were an inch off the bump stops with less than 400 lbs in the bed. Even with my AAL's 800lbs of pellets was an inch off the stops. With my rebuilt springs it takes about 800lbs for it to sit level. So even brand new fresh from the factory it couldn't handle the rated load. There was no rake to allow the back to drop at all under load, so any load and my headlights pointed to the sky. That's less than impressive for someone owning a truck for the first time. Brand new and already needed to modify rear suspension to barely handle the rated capacity. Certainly not the "meteor proof" truck all the commercials depicted! I guess if you're going to claim that, then your shit should be built tougher.

This, I can understand not better towing but payload should be comparable to small F150 since the size of Tacoma and F150 is pretty the same except F150 is taller.
Payload capacity of sandwich and half is ridiculous. 1gen truck had better payload.

At this point I'm going to look at an F150. I liked my Tacoma when I got it but fighting a bad clutch that the dealer won't replace and springs that they aren't sure how they will fix I'm just not happy with Toyota in general. So now I'm even concerned about the payload I can carry.

Add to that my best friend just got an F150 Lariat that I really like I'll be looking at Ford again. Over the years all I've owned are Fords and Toyotas. All vehicles have their problems but how the manufacturer handles them means a lot.

When I get back from vacation I'm going to look at F150's.

Payload capacity of my 1985 was better than the Taco.. Stupid soft ride..

My 86 was a 1ton.. What happened to that option?

And yes, the stock springs in a Taco are pathetic. I guess for me I planned to modify them anyway so its a wash. But for someone who is going to keep it stock they are a huge fail.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
With all the problems you're having with your Toyota, you should buy the Ford.

Looks like Nissan is going to under price Titan XD with Diesel to grab some market.

    http://www.chicagoautoshow.com/auto-show-blog/nissans-titan-xd/

I like that a lot. I could be grabbing one This year.
I hope Toyota pulls their head out of their @ss before than.

I'm really thinking about one of those too, but they need to hurry up and release the freaking price range! :frusty: If they put it over 50 like all the other diesels it's off my list.
