Overall the question is a moot point for me. If I want a pickup it's going to be a tacoma. If toyota didn't make the tacoma, then I would get a 4runner plus a trailer.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
I debated the 4runner recently, it is very nice. I LOVE the interior.

BUT tow rating of 4700? Not going to fly. I would break the rating, and not worry I am sure the runner could pull more except legally with weighted tags etc now.. It is begging for trouble.

Tacoma's 6500 is just enough. Realistically it pulls well properly set up with trailer brakes and other stuff and the 6spd manual is great.

I keep seeing people talk about integrated brake controller being a plus on Fords.. Do they not realize the Tacoma comes pre-wired and with a pig tail so you can very easily hook up trailer brakes anytime with a controller of your choice and not modify the truck? I personally really like that part, and I am glad that Toyota did not pick a brake controller for me and integrate it to charge more. I like having the choice.

yeah if 2016 Tacoam had bigger Engine I could live with ugly grill or 80's styled dash.
But with 3.5 slo. I see no point spending any money on it.
There is just nothing in it that I see I would want over another vehicle.

    Cons:
    1. Ugly front (some Subaru, some fusion a lot of plastic sticking out)
    2. Too small engine
    3. Same weak ass frame, now even weaker because they want to shave some weight.

    Pros:
    ????

F150 to me is better deal than 2016 Tacoma and thats just sad.

I can see that being a concern. I don't regularly tow that much weight, so it's not a big deal for me.

Why would the new/revised/same frame be weaker if they added reinforcement to make it stronger

Engine, still unknown as to how that is going to work out.

f150 sounds like a better deal based off options and creature comforts, compared to price. But where is the value for return on investment when -real world MPG is much worse than claimed (check fuelly)
-reliability is still not as good as the Tundra, if better than previous Fords or other domestics
-still does not beat the Tundra as a truck, Ford won't update tow ratings based off the new standards so their claimed numbers are not comparable to Tundra's claimed numbers.
-looks better than the Tundra, but the same un-proven issues people are claiming for the Tacoma and GM twins are going to come up with the new F150.

Hey that is fair enough! If I could get away with the 4runner I would have one. They are so nice! If that interior was in the new Tacoma, even with the bucktooth beaver front end I would be driving one ASAP :)

I am pretty sure they said they saved on weight, not sure about strength, but current frame is nothing to brag about, not to mention it rusts faster than Russian bicycle.

If you comparing Tundra to F150 you can buy F150 for much cheaper than Tundra, and you will save on fuel a lot. Tundra burns tons of fuel.

If you comparing F150 to Tacoma, there is maybe 2-4 MPG of difference between Ford F150 V8 and 4 L Tacoma. So even if I have to shell out another $400 per year extra, having ability to tow 11 000 LB is all worth it to me.

Reliability is the only thing Tacoma can claim, but with my second truck having to go and get replacement for rusting frame I dont think that claim can hold much water anymore. Yes the Engine and tranny is better but that engine is from Land Cruiser. When it comes to 3.5 there is no upper hand over F150.
So to me F150 vs 2016 is clear choice - F150. Similiar sized, better equipped, with more payload and towing. For regular person fuel difference is negligable,

If I had to pick a new vehicle I'd choose the 4Runner my next purchase. They drive so much better than the Tacoma and the interior is a lot better. I'd get the limited since it is full time 4wd. But I'd consider the trail edition due tomits off road goodies.

Just to get the facts out there, Ford has adopted the SAE standards now, so all 4 (Toyota, Ford, GM, and RAM) are rated on the same terms now.

If the new F150's were the same size as my 94 F150 I would be driving one. The new trucks are just too big.

I F*cking love the power wagon!

Too bad it gets negative numbers for gas mileage

I'm looking to get something in about another year or so. I've been following the GM twins closely, but like many people the GM reputation gives me pause.

I'm also not sure whether to get a midsize or fullsize. I don't really need the capability of a fullsize, but I have a baby (and could have another within a couple of years), so I'm not sure that a midsize will have enough backseat room for the kids.

Reliability is a big deal to me, which is why I'd like a Toyota. But gas mileage is also a big concern, which makes me hesitate at the Tundra. But then, the better reliability could offset the higher fuel costs down the line......argh, so many variables to consider.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I would find a used Mazda B Series 4x4 pickup. My buddy had a 1989 Mazda B2600 4x4 that proved to be really damn tough and reliable, right up there in the neighborhood with old Toyota pickups.

I honestly wouldn't bother with mid size trucks anymore, I will either have a compact or a full size. I have both right now so I am happy.

    Just bought it!
If Honda made a normal shaped truck I would've seriously considered buying it when I got the Tacoma. I know Honda has no interest in the full size truck market, but if they made one with a standard shaped bed/cab, I'd be willing to put it right up there with the toyota as far as reliability goes(that's always my #1 concern, and the biggest reason I couldn't bring myself to pick an F150 over a Tundra when I had to trade my my tacoma due to family size issues). From what I've seen from teasers/internet rumors, it looked like the next ridgeline might have the standard truck shape which really excited me. Hopefully they've got something comparable when I'm ready to trade mine in again.
