I'm curious what you don't like about it. I've never had anything other than Toyota myself, and to me the Ecoboost looks great on paper. :notsure:

I mean, the Ecoboost 2.7L is smaller, more powerful and gets better MPG.

The 2.7 has 89 more HP, 109 more ft lbs of torque, and estimated 4 more MPG city with 7 more MPG highway. Even if you don't hit those numbers, it's still more power for the same MPG. The differences between the 3.5L Ecoboost and our 4.0 V6 is even higher with 17-22 MPG (I get 17-18 MPG max with my Tacoma).

So what am I missing?

I have Ecoboost FX4 F-150 best hwy mileage is 16.5-17.0 mpg to note. That's flat ground going easy etc etc. I know several here that also have comparable mileage. Fords paper stats are BS. Just so you know ...

Would rather deal with the 16 front end than ford long term dependability any day..Would not own an F150 outside of warranty...

Ok let me ask you this, what is exactly that you think makes Toyota more dependable.
    1. Frame rusts through
    2. Wheel bearings with plastic cages fail mostly at 40 000 miles intervals
    3. Alabama build engines have vibrations, oil pump issues etc.
    4. Rattles, vibrations etc.
    5. 4wd mechanism with plastic gears, unsoldered electric engines...
6 Leaf spring breaking off and puncturing fuel tank.
    7. Ujoints with no grease zerks.

I mean when you look very very closely. New Tacomas are not that far from GM quality.

these are all great points, and on top of that for me the 05+ are too big and bulky with a lot to be desired for looks.

I own a first gen because I like the quality and style better, when I bought mine in 09 I could have gotten an 05 with the same trim and nearly the same miles for $1k more.

I hated the 6 speed and the truck just felt like a dumbed down Tundra.

I went from an 89 4x4 single cab Toyota to a 98 single cab base lowered with frame notch to now my 02 extra cab 4x4 TRD 5 speed.

Tough call. I really like Tundra's but the price and mileage scare me. I rode in a 2014 Tacoma double cab recently, and it rode damn nice. I'll probably stick with another Taco after this one.

Not sure what you define as great as far as rust goes. The Titans develop a fair amount of body rust especially here in the NE. I've seen quite a few with bad rust spots around the fenders and rocker panels, whereas I haven't seen that problem with Toyotas made around the same time. Haven't seen a frame go bad on any of them so far, though.

I work at a Nissan dealership so I see a lot of them.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
Your right, the frame is not as strong or as stiff as earlier Toyota's. That was crash safety, cost, and ride quality that cause they shift. I must have read it wrong then, I thought you were saying it would be weaker. The way I understand is the frame has been updated with higher strength steel in areas that reduces weight, and additional re-enforcement that makes it stiffer.

Yes they do rust like Russian bikes. If you take a few extra steps it won't be an issue. I come from the rust belt and my Tacoma's frames are pretty good. That is not to say it is not a problem.

F150 is cheaper after the huge price cut that Ford is happy with. I have not seen any real fuel savings of F150 over Tundra.
    http://www.fuelly.com/car/ford/f-150
    http://www.fuelly.com/car/toyota/tundra

The quality of the 2 trucks depends on opinion. So other than reliability I will leave it out.

Tacoma to F150, the biggest thing aside from resale, or reliability is the size. A Tacoma still fits down most trails to rescue my play truck and a full size will not.

As a bonus it does better on fuel. In the real world.
    http://www.fuelly.com/car/toyota/Tacoma

And I have the ability to tow 11k if I need. But I very rarely would have to.

I did pull over 10k with a 2nd gen Tacoma half way across the country.
I have pulled 8k over 1200 miles one way with a first gen.

Regularly I would not, but how many F150's are ever really used to pull more than what a Tacoma can pull? almost none. It is the entry level ford, and the people who actually want an American truck for a job the Tacoma can't do are usually smart enough to buy a F250, 2500 etc.

    1. yup.
    2. Mine failed, and I fixed it. No plastic cage? Just a modern BS unitized hub bearing. $200
    3. I have never heard of it, but they must be few and far between
    4. Its a truck, I have not been around one yet that did not make some noise.
    5. Any complaints, you will find the ford is not any better.
    6. The leaves are shit. How many have broken and punctured the tanks I don't know. But Toyota is working on making people happy with it.
    7. Same as wheel bearings, they are designed to fail. But they are covered under warranty, and they are cheap and easy to fix anyway.

    GM issues
1.Every issue listed for Toyota plus some, many more expensive and harder to fix. Shitty factory service, shitty product for years, slightly less shitty product recently. Even if they made the best product in the world tomorrow I would still be hesitant to own one given the terrible service at GM.

The Chevy Colorado peaks my interest as they bid for a share of the tacoma market. It is midsize and looks to offer a Z71 package like I used to have on my full size GMC. My 2010 DC tacoma is running great at 100K miles but I'm starting to get the itch for something different.

Ok thanks for the info. So I won't plan on getting BETTER MPG, but with those numbers I'm still in the range of the Tacoma with 130-ish more HP, more torque, and more of the features I want.

Same here. Really questioning Toyota quality. Last 4 I've owned all burned oil. Rav4 burned it, fouled the cats, threw P0430 codes, then turned off VSC, CC, and 4WD until the code was reset. Losing 4WD in the middle of winter in NY due to a freaking emissions code is unacceptable. And some idiot programmed it that way because the ABS still worked, so it didn't just shut everything off to limp home. Toyota knew about the oil consumption, had a TSB calling for new piston rings, but wouldn't perform it. Said I wasn't burning ENOUGH oil for the TSB to be done. That vehicle's gone, replaced with a pathfinder.

    As for your list:
    1. My frame is being replaced. Tailgate, elocker, and rear bumper all rusted out.
    2. I've done 3 wheel bearings so far, if I remember. Driver side twice, passenger once. Maybe both twice by now.
    3. Constant ticking. Didn't hear a damn thing on the Ford or GMC Sierra
    4. Cab rattles, wind whistles between cab and bed. Barely any noise inside the F150. Didn't drive the Sierra, but both have doors tucked into the body to reduce noise.
    5. No problems with 4WD, but I need seals on the front drive axles and new axle shafts for a second time.
    6. Springs were always too weak. Sagging to the bump stops long before the 1100 lb rated load capacity, now being recalled for breaking. Imagine that. Even after a TSB to add a leaf to help with the lack of load capacity.
    7. The drive shafts have 7 fittings, which is more than my PF and that kind of surprises me.

I looked at the GMC Sierra too, which seemed nice until I saw the 26.7 million recalls for GM/Chevy in 2014. Now that kind of scares me.

Probably start an F150 better than Tacoma thread.. Seem to be a few people who really feel that way, yet still choose to drive a Tacoma and hang out on Tacoma forum.

Probably have a favorite team in the superbowl every year too. ;)

On that note correct however let me share some things.

My FX4 F-150 is a work truck in outback daily. I never abuse my truck my livelihood depends on that.

All that said: I'm nearing 20k miles now

1.) Had to replace all crap plastic skid plates all ripped off
2.) Several rattles and interior fiitment issues
3.) Two dealer days with side window issues not working or closing all way
4.) Turbo issues and sounds like next trip in probably replace as its making horrible sounds now
5.) I've had it not engage into 4x4 several times now they're still not sure wtf is going on.
6.) Steering wheel column is clunky and working in resolution
7.) Front end is already displaying fatigue
8.) Best MPG avg 16.5-17mpg. City is around 12-13mpg
Previous 3 trucks were Tundra crewmax each had over 150k miles and only did regular maintenance and all in same road conditions as my fx4. I've had over 30 full size pickups in last 20 years with my work of all brands. Will I get another Ford? No I will not if I have choice, which I do.

I have nothing to lose nor gain by all this these trucks are free for me.

Bottom line: The new Fords are great "city" trucks. I think with minimal off roading they'd last and be great. Take em off road regularly and they're not exactly (Ford Tough).

    Good luck

No shit...I said it earlier, the people who bitch everyday about their truck and say how shitty it is or how Toyota shoved a stick up their ass can only blame themselves for not getting rid of it.
