Well, just finished this mod today on my 02 DC. I bought the lighted cylinder and the bezel off ebay. Both parts came from a 99 4runner but I think 00-02 are the same parts as well.

I bought some T connectors at the local auto store and used some 16 gauge speaker wire I had laying around to extend the wiring since I didn't have any other spare wire of similar size. The T connectors are nice over soldering since if you ever need to remove it you can just take the connector off. If you really wanted to get it done correctly you could probably find the other side of the snap together connector that comes with the 4runner lighted ring but I didn't want to deal with that as 4runners aren't common at my local junk yards.

The white wire on the 4runner lighted ring is power and the green cable is the ground. Also, I didn't tap into the black/striped and black wires like BigOly and KerlyQ did. Those wires end up connecting via a plug to a black/yellow/yellow setup and i just tapped into the corresponding black/yellow cables and it works just fine. And it's actually a little closer and easier to get to.

    Stuff I used:
    Lighted ring off 99 4runner
    Bezel ring off a 99 4runner
    10mm socket wrench
    Phillips screwdriver
    Wirestripper
    2 butt connectors
    2 T connectors
Speaker wire (or any 16-18 gauge electrical wire is fine as well)

I also opened up the digital clock since mine wasn't really working. Fully disassembled it and reassembled it making sure that the metal prongs were touching the PCB and now it seems to work perfectly.

It would be pretty expensive if you bought the parts new oem. Just check your local junkyards for 96-00 4Runners, any of those years should have it. Most of the 01-02 4Runners I come across have the security system ignition cylinders and a different size light ring to go with them. I think I get the rings for $2 each at yards. Make sure you get the black bezel piece too.

Thanks, that explains why I could not find it. Door tag is missing, don't know why, and, I have verified it is not a "salvage title" vehicle. All VIN locations on vehicle agree.

that would explain it! You can also put your VIN into this website https://partsouq.com/ and it will tell you your frame number.

    PLUG AND PLAY!
EASY WIRING IGNITION RING LIGHT! (I got lucky, maybe you will, too!).
Here is the wiring part of my ring light assembly, likely from a 2000 4Runner:
Lighted Ignition switch light wiring assembly.jpg
I did not have to figure out wiring, as I found the proper connector ready under the dash, just waiting for me to "plug and play".
    Found the interface!.jpg
And this is the successful test:

    Your model may vary :fingerscrossed:

    IGNITON RING LIGHT-2 INSERTS.jpg

The ignition ring light assembly fastens to the ignition lock assembly with a screw through this hole.
There is a threaded tab on the ignition lock assembly that is threaded to accept a screw (6 mm, I think)

FREE to the first PM. The black ring on the RIGHT that I have replaced with the ring on the LEFT.
If you need the black ring on the RIGHT, the one that does NOT go with the lighted option, send me a PM and if you are first I will PM you back for your U.S. Mailing address. This black ring is taken off my 2000 Tacoma ExtraCab SR5 PreRunner. It is whole and functional but shows signs that it is 20 years old (scratches, patina). There is no part number embossed on it, sorry.

Hey guys, hoping for some info/help. I am trying to add the ignition light to my Tacoma as well.I have the plug waiting for me. I plugged it in but, with no luck. It didn’t light up. I tested ignition harness and light bulb and it powers up via battery. I checked fuses per manual saying the fuse box in the engine bay labeled “DOME” ties into ignition light. Not entirely sure why it wouldn’t work. Any info would help guys!

    Maroon taco,
An easy way is to wire the ring light into a 12v cigarette lighter power plug with wires. Just match the two wires, strip, twist, solder, tape, and route behind dash. Most Tacoma’s have three outlets so choose whatever fits your setup. And you have the choice to turn on and off. Takes 15 min.
    Here is mine

The trucks that are pre-wired for this run that circuit through the integration relay. The light ring will come on when you open the door and then turn off 15-30 seconds after (I can't remember off the top of my head). It will not remain on when the truck is running. Make sure you are testing in the correct scenario. That circuit wont have power if you've had the door open for a while. Lock the door, then unlock and open and it should light up. If that doesn't work then there is something wrong with the circuit.

Awesome! I might have been testing wrong then. I had the door open for a bit. I didn’t try closing and then unlocking. I’ll give this a go tomorrow. I definitely don’t want it running and staying on. Just on for a bit then shut up.

Thanks. If it doesn’t work out with the plug I will try this route. What do you mean by choice of turning on and off?

Some come with an on/off button. You can keep it “on” and when you start your truck your ring will come on automatically or you can keep it “off” and manually turn it on after you start your truck.

You could also wire it into the dome light circuit. Just remember that the dome light has constant 12v+ and uses a switched ground. You can find the switched ground at the driver door for the courtesy switch/light.
