I’m going to be attempting the ignition light ring mod sometime soon and am wanting it to fade to off after a moment once the doors close, so I have some time to find the ignition.
If I wired up a small capacitor into the circuit, would it do that as the voltage dropped off? Anyone have any thoughts on what size capacitor to use? What does their ignition ring draw in terms of power (mA, minimum voltage to ignite a led)? That way I could plan how long it’d be lit for.

If you wired it to the dome light would it not take a minute before turning off? At least that’s sort of how the 3rd gen 4Runner works. And that’s how the 1st gen diy describes it I think.

You would want to get some kind of off delay relay. that will de energize after a set time. Generally a pretty cheap part like 5$ and come in different delays i most common see 10 seconds

In agreement with tapping into the dome light.

So that’s for AC power it looks like? Right? As an option down below it I saw this! Looks like exactly what I was hoping for! Although the gentle fade to off would be fun as a capacitor discharged...

My dome light definitely just turns off as soon as the doors close. There’s been some wiring modifications to this vehicle. Still figuring them all out!

Yeah i was just showing you what we use in hvac for doing what you want. There are tons of different styles of those relays. You just need a off delayed relay that will work for your application

@ZrowGz There must be a delay already built into the circuit. Tested my new light and it stayed on for a period after the door was closed.

Installed the ignition ring light mod today and I got lucky. This for a 2000 ExtraCab SR5 Pre-Runner.
Behind the dash I discovered the proper connector, just waiting for me to plug in my light. No need for special wiring.
    Found the interface!.jpg
    And it worked immediately!
    And here is proof!.jpg

My 1999 SR5 3RZ Pre-Runner Ext Cab had the plug as well.

I have a feeling that all 95-00 (or some year range within that) has this plug. The light ring did come on certain models.

I've attached the wiring diagram for the interior lights. You can see that it comes from the integration relay. That's where the delay circuit comes from.
