Your not an idiot. An Idiot would have drained the tranny, then used the drained fluid to fill the coolant.

You will be fine without the plug. If its of concern, a local hardware store should have an assortment of those little plugs that you can get for under 2 bucks. IIRC, they are vacuum line plugs.

You want to know an idiot. We had someone while deployed pour diesel into the hydrolic tank for their trailer hydrolics (trailer gooseneck moves up and down, deck moves up and down, and 8 of the 10 axles all turn by the use of that one hydrolic tank). That was a mess to flush out for them. Glad it wasn't in my platoon.

As long as you got the plug off go buy a few feet of 5/16 ID hose and permanently secure it to the drain nipple (where your plug was) with a hose clamp. Run the hose down through the hole in the skid plate when doing a oil change and tuck it on top of the skid plate when not in use. I use a plastic plug to cap off the end of the line...never had a drop on the driveway.

If you dropped it...I bet it's laying on the bottom of the fan shroud. And unless you have long and very flexible arms...you will have to remove the skid plate to access it.

ask me how I know this. :D

if oil is dripping from the filter cup nipple...

loss of nipple cap is not your immediate problem.

If you take it to the dealership for an oil change they will loose it for you.

Back in the 90s I didn't have time to change the oil before a long trip so I ran over to a dealership early in the morning and had them change it. I pulled into a gas station several hours down the road, went to fill my washer fluid, and found oil all over my engine compartment -- they had left the fill cap off.

I asked the guy at that middle-of-nowhere 7/11 if they had a cap for a Toyota and he said that they didn't but to look along the road as people forgot to put them back on all the time and they usually bounced out within a half-mile or so. Sure enough, I walked the side of the road for a few minutes and finally found one, along with two gas caps that also fit my truck.
