    Whew! At that speed, mileage should be stellar! I drive fairly conservatively...not sure if I could drive that slow though. :D

    That is what he keeps on telling me, didn't buy it for the mileage...bought because of QDR, out of all the vehicles he has owned over the years, the Tundra has been his most reliable, IIRC he is closing in on 170K miles, has done much other than put gas in it and change the oil.

    Only had depreciation trade with the silverado to tacoma as expected with it only being 6 months old. And the 5.3L is ecotec with cylinder deactivation in the 14+ silverados, which is why they get that mileage, similar to vortex max previous. And how do you figure, the tundra was more expensive and more expensive to fuel every year, not sure your logic there.

    And then there's the guys who don't actually know how to calculate mpg and just guess at and throw a totally bogus number at you.

    I am aware of cylinder deactivation. It's been a feature on GM motors for almost 10 years. My ex wifes 2010 5.3 L got about 15 mpg combined and she babied it. Our fleet trucks at work, all 2015 GMC's, are closer to 18 mpg combined. Seems like the Ford, without deactivation, gets about the same mileage. Either way, in order to get 24 mpg highway average, you'd really have to baby it. Not saying it's impossible to get that mileage. Just very difficult. Even fuelly is nowhere near there.

    Anyways, my point was that if you could afford to lose the 6 month of depreciation you probably could of afforded to of just bought a Tundra. What did you lose on the Chevrolet over 6 months? $6K at least? Add $6K onto the price of a new Tacoma and you're pretty close to a Tundra no? Not to mention how you probably got killed on the trade a bit so that would cover the ~20% loss of fuel efficiency to go to a Tundra.

    Lost 4k on trade to silverado, tacoma was 32k OTD. So 36k, tundra was 38k otd, close but still cheaper to run the tacoma. No babying, and friends who also have new silverados are getting 21-23 on hwy, I have a picture of my mpg when I bought it I'll have to find somewhere. City I was getting 18-19.

    Part of the problem with the 5.3 is of course only having 355 hp compared to 385 with the 5.0 and 395 with the Hemi. But it's further made to feel like a dog because a lot of the 1500's have 3.08 rear end ratio to get the highway mpg numbers up.

    I haven't quite figured it out yet, but on SLT Sierra's, the 18" wheels seem to have 3.08 while the 20" wheels have 3.42. I've test driven the 3.08 and it was kind of a dog. The Hemi with 8 speed and 3.92's is of course a rocket, but most of those come with 3.55 or 3.21. I like lower ratios typically.

    @Balockay
    Im alive just been doing the Air Force thing, having a kid thing, and being in Alaska thing.

    they do not do much Toyota meets other than the ice racing or parking lot crawls up here. I noped out of the yota community up here til I can get back down to my kind of crawlers.

    How have you been? you still stay in touch with the group? I haven't been on the other site in a long while.

    The yota guys up here are too mall crawler status. the ones I have talked too lift the truck for the show. most have lots of $$$ in the truck mods to ferry the family too and from the mall, not really my cup of tea.

    I just drive my 4runner or my tundra too and from work up here, or to the hunting spots. I may be jaded but I don't see many off road yota groups that do on anything other than logging roads, they then complain how the tire shine has gotten caked in dirt.
    Green Tree is cool but they are really big into the ice racing not rock crawling.

    I don't exactly rock crawl but I do enjoy a challenging trail (as long as you don't have to get out every 5 seconds to make sure you're not hitting a tree or something). Are you going to wheel your '16 tacoma if you get one?

    The looks will eventually grow on people. Looking back when the 2nd Gen came out I'm pretty sure there was a lot of naysayers. Now look how it dominates the mid-size market. Some people just can't accept and embrace change from what the current gen is. It's not a revolutionary design but an evolution from the 2nd gen. And we all know how great the 2nd Gens are.
