If they know this is an issue and already have a new part, why haven't they issued a TSB?

    Why would they?

Option 1) Recall everyone affected before the change over. = Huge logistics, time, $$$ , and admission of flaw.

Option 2) Just wait until it fails and then replace it with updated part = Don't replace if it aint broke, owner may not be in warranty anymore/covered by Toyota, no admission of flaw, less $$$$

That's what I was basically told at the dealer I go to. Won't replace it if it isn't broken and they can't replicate the error.

Option 3) Do nothing and deal with angry customers, towing, unexpected service appointments, misdiagnoses, extra work on catalytic converters, possible lawsuits due to accidents.

LOL, and who do you think this affects more the consumer or billion dollar corporation?

Figure you're ahead now since you're aware of it, now you have two options:

Option 1) Do nothing about it

Option 2) Do something about it

Thanks to this thread and the very helpful people involved in it, I replaced mine today with the updated part. Much thanks to you guys for posting the info and links to the sensor. Very much appreciated and hope someday I can repay the favor.

Well, I'm glad (really unhappy) to see someone having almost the identical problems I'm having.

My 2016 is garage kept and driven on paved roads and well maintained.

Yesterday I had it towed to the dealer with these identical problems and after I picked it up today and drove it a whopping 6 miles, I had to have it towed back.

I'm heading to the dealer tomorrow morning. Your posts help me confront the service writer with some hard facts.

    Thanks

If you lived close, I'd have my truck towed to your house and you could help me fix this.

    Back to the dealer tomorrow.

Thanks for the photos and the advice.

With all this CPS discussion, I decided to go under my truck to pull it off after setting it up on some ramps. Just gave the rubber boot a quick squeeze as it has marks and a shape molded over the release tab to ease detachment. Pulled the 10mm bolt off and it pops right out.

Mine has abuild date of 7/16/2016 and the factory sensor has the crosshatch marks as many have indicated as the superseded part. I had a brand new spare in the g-box that is identical to the installed one as "insurance" for the "just in case" moment. Bought before I actually checked it.

Honestly, no. The sensors are made in Japan. But I remember another CPS thread that had a poll with the ability to track where it was manufactured and see which factory sent out more trucks with this "issue". Hard to trace accurate info as many Tacoma owners do not have accounts on this forum, if they have been affected by this CPS issue.

I just put the info out for those curious and if it gets traced back to that poll thread. If you guys do eventually check, be careful with the boot and the heat shielding wrap. It can place a lot of strain on the connector joint if frustration sets in. It can be very easily removed if you can pinch the right spot. I remember an arrow indicator molded in the boot just above the connector detent. There is also a very positive and audible click when reinserting. Hope this helps.

Not as daunting as it may seem, but wait for the engine to cool a bit as it literally sits a couple of inches from the catalyst.

@over60 I will let you know if I decide to! Shipping to CA isn't cheap though. The dealers there don't have it?

Just FYI, if you're curious about part number for the 3.5 V6. There are already part numbers out there, but redundancy never hurts especially if the thread gets deep. Here's the actual item...image.jpg

OK, not sure what the price is here... I have not really checked yet..! I think it will be about $130.00 CDN... That would be about $90.00 USD..?

Thanx for the part #.. I should call the dealer and see what they are selling for, I guess.!

Mine was built in 2015 Nov but has not yet failed at just over 20k miles. Wondering if my Toyota dealer would just go ahead and replace mine before it fails.

With all the problems you have had it would not hurt to ask.
