well I sold the truck last summer, but the intake was not noticeably louder than stock with the way I finished it off inside the fender. When it was plumbed into the cab, it was unbearably loud for a daily driver. I never had a deckplate mod on that truck.

Take a look back at how I finished mine. I left it routed inside the fender so it wasn't so loud in the cab. Better location than the stock one. You could easily have it still come out of the fender and put an inlet on it that about hood height but IMO if you're doing that you might was well do a regular snorkel.

I gave up on the idea until I cage it, the cleanest I have seen before is where the snorkel is integrated into the cage. Instead of using normal sized DOM tubing they used a larger size for that section of cage and ran the snorkel thru the tubing. Great idea really. Just a few years down the road for me.

Well SAS is in progress and the 3RZ is good enough for me. Caging is next after college and a new DD lol.

@Box Rocket , I could be wrong but I've been trying to figure out a way to do something like this(& need to soon) but it seems like water would hit the fender and drop down into the tube?

Not sure what you mean? The top of the fender is protected. If you don't use an inner fender then I guess you risk throwing water etc into the top of the fender and maybe into the snorkel. That's why I made an inner fender. It's also the reason that the piece I used for the opening is a Y with a lower opening at a low point so that any moisture that gets in will drain out and not drain down the snorkel.

I thought you were running it without a fender liner so it makes more sense now… I thought about building a liner but not sure I want to bolt anything to fiberglass. :ballchain:

Yeah, an inner fender is a good idea if you're doing this type of snorkel.

Too much to list, but enough to get me in trouble. Repeatedly.

Be very careful with cowl intakes. It can work, but it can also cause problems. One of the first times I saw this done was a guy on Pirate4x4 forum. It looked like it would be a good solution without using an external snorkel. But a few months after the guy finished it they had heavy rain. The cowl will allow water in and he ended up hydro-locking his motor in his driveway.
Basically you need to make sure that water that gets into the cowl (which is normal) cannot get into the intake.

It's good that yours seems to be working well @Mach375. Not all have the same experience. I've heard of several cowl intake mods that were not successful and caused damage to the motor. Like I said, it can work but it's gotta be done right.
