Yeah I looked into t tracks too. Ram has plastic and aluminum tracks for mounting on surfaces that could work on the colored surround portion but to mount it where OP had it you'd need to taper it as the gap between the dash and the colored bit is narrower on the driver's side. I'm guessing that the head unit is angled slightly toward the driver but I haven't looked into it beyond taking those two measurements

@Lostsheep may be working on something similar. So far gauging interest.

The geometry is more complicated than just being angled. Passenger side is straight and the drivers side appears to be a variable radius. We were able to match it pretty well with a linear portion and one large radius with fillets connecting them. Using my eyecrometers I’d say we got the gaps within about .020”.

FWIW, I think I’ll be proceeding with these just need to find mill time and also figure out how much I can make them for and keep everyone happy on price. I’ll see if I can come up with a ballpark cost for material , run, finishing, and shipping today. That being said, this is a side project for me that I use to buy parts for my Taco while keeping my wife happy so everyone please be patient. I also need to run more for 2nd gens cause I just ran out of those.

I'm super disappointed OP is MIA. I've seen the other similar offerings, but nothing anywhere near as low profile as his.

I am going to see if I can taper a Ram ball mount base to fit the gap behind the trim bezel.

Going this route lets you have more flexibility and only three holes.

thing is it doesn't have to go all the way to the end taper spot (not needed IMO), he's sandwitching two plates above and below the plastic then screwing them together with the threads on the plate below the plastic, really good idea to keep it rigid. Love to buy one...but think I can get one made before he even comes back so......unless @Lostsheep comes up with something...

The way mine is currently, requires it to be about 1/2" thick. This is so that it is easier to mark the mounting holes for drilling through the trim ring. I am going to revisit this and see what I can do to drop the overall height. I do not have a 3rd gen and the first one I made was done the way my buddy wanted it; I'd prefer a lower profile if it was me.

Just to be clear, my design has three holes drilled through the trim ring too and just has threaded holes for using 1/4-20 threads. Bolt on options are nice and all but I can't help it, I'm a fan of plasma cutters, welders, and sawzalls so I gave up on bolt on a long time ago. This isn't directed at you @Glenn_R , but for others reading this who are afraid to drill holes my design will not be for you.

Not sure what tools you have at your disposal, but as this isn't exactly rocket science, I'm willing to share my 2D profile as long as someone doesn't take it and start selling these things out from underneath me; i.e., used only for personal use. If I recall correctly, we didn't use backing plates, just oversize washers and it is extremely rigid. My 3rd gen buddy is in the Philippines at the moment so part of my delay is just waiting for him to get back so I can yank his dash apart again to see what needs to change.

I'm pretty sure I can make these things, with ano, and hardware for $25 plus shipping and still be happy. If I was making thousands of them they would be a couple of bucks; there's just not a lot to them.

$25 is less than half of what I was expecting to pay. Very interested to see what you can come up with! Especially if you think you can make something with a low profile.

With those biceps, even @Twinkie0311 would buy the mount, and @inesshell would video tape it...

I'm not afraid to drill holes in my dash, I am just afraid to drill holes in my dash. Is the install a pretty difficult one for the 3rd gen with your design @Lostsheep ? Since I am about as green as the grass with doing stuff like this and don't want to complete hack job it

Install on the 3rd gens is trivial; especially compared to 2nd gens.

I’ve been instructed by the mods to create a thread in the group buy section. I will link to it here when I get the thread going. I’m probably going to run these at the same time as I run a bunch of my second gen mounts.
