    Hey all,

I used the search feature and found a few threads talking about different trucks and several about buying etc... so here we go

I went to the dealer last night and they got me interested in a 2020 TRD sport, 6 Speed. However, I am still on the fence about the ranger. The biggest issues being comfort (driving position) and power 2.3L turbo.

Needless to say I love driving stick, and I'm unsure If i am ready to drive an auto trans.

I did sign a deal with them, and now that I've slept on it, I believe I may call and cancel. Any general advice or thoughts?

    thanks!

Resale, stick to Toyota. If you dont like it, the value is still there.

The auto in the tacoma lets you play with gears up/down like a stick, smoother and more fun imho. Skip the ranger and get an F150 if you go ford. Much better truck.

cancel it. you can always take another look around or test drive but if you're gut is telling you to cancel, which it sounds like it is, cancel it.

I drove a stick for 40+ years. I finally bought an AT with my 2010 and would never go back to a stick on my truck. I would definitely buy a MT if I had a sports car but it's sure nice having an AT while 4WDing and in the snow. At my age I want less complexity and an AT just makes life easier. AT will give you better mileage and I believe you are ahead financially after your first clutch replacement.

I would stay away from anything turbo or super charged. It will flat out create more wear and tear on your engine.

    Everyone's entitled to my opinion.

What is more important to you? Seating position, manual transmission, motor? Once you figure that you, the decision is already made.

Yes it does. You can go from first to second to third, downshift etc.

Today’s automatics are not yesterdays either. They work a lot better.

All it does is lock you out of the gears higher than what is selected.....

I find having a MT in my Taco makes it more fun to drive, in fact I wouldn’t have bought one with an Auto, however my Taco is not my daily driver.

One of my friends bought a new Ranger as soon as they were released. It’s a nice truck and the engine is impressive but the interior is not as nice as in the Taco (in my opinion). Another friend has an FX4 Ranger on order. I’m curious to see how it compares to my Taco.

From a looks standpoint, I really like how the Ranger has a more classic, understated, utilitarian look than the more aggro third gen Tacoma.

I was admiring a new FX4 in White with gray trim and it looked nice out on a trail here.

If you look thru the 3rd Gen Forum, YouTube, Magazine reviews you will find the Automatic is the single biggest complaint people have with this truck.

truth...luckily it's the ONE issue I didn't have :D The gear hunting bs that so many complain about would have been the kicker for me to trade it in. 5 yrs. in now and the only weirdness left is the strange vibe in the gas pedal/floor board area that many attribute to the engine mounts - but no one has really been able to pinpoint it or find resolution. I think at this point I've just become used to it as it's only noticeable now and then........that or the huge ported sub behind the backseat that makes everything vibrate now. :D

When I looked at the Ranger my first impression was that the ass end was 6 feet tall! I also agree that the interior seems cheaper than the Tacoma but in the end it’s got to be what makes you happy because it’s a big investment and it sucks when you make a bad choice that reminds you of that every day!

Crash tests, reliability, and resale are much better with the Tacoma.

Peronally I wouldn’t trust the Ecoboost 4cyl engine in the Ranger, there are documented issues.

you have to decide what’s important to you, doesn’t matter what any of us think.
