make sure you look at the map ahead of time to reserve the spots you want to camp at, the ones by the colorado and the green river get snatched up fast, i would try to get one at hogback if you can

All the national park websites said 4x4 high clearance needed. Can my GFs little crossover make it, or is it pretty rough? I'm actually going to be in arches national park for new years and was hoping to kill 2 birds with one stone in the crossover

there might be optional side trails you want to avoid with the crossover, the ones that cross into the riverbeds are ones i would avoid with low vehicles, if you stay on the main roads you will make it. If you run into opposing traffic up or down switchbacks it might be difficult to get you off to the sides and back, I had a run in at hogback

On white rim? Possibly, but I don't think it would be fun. We saw a rav4 out there [already on a spare] so its possible but probably not fun. There are only a few parts that truly benefit from 4x4, but the clearance is probably your bigger issue. Hardscrabble Hill has some steep and sandy sections that 4LO can just churn up instead of slipping.

i would take the tacoma, there are a lot of side trails that are worth the effort that would be missed in the crossover. If you are going to spend 2 days on the trail, might as well make it worth it

bryce and zion deserve a day each on their own if you have time, if you are near grand staircase escalante there are some nice slot canyons

I also was just up at wedge overlook [north of the highway] -- easy trails but amazing camping views.

I just spent 4 days in Zion, Bryce, and capitol reef in September and it was amazing. I had so much fun on that trip, it sparked me to want to go back to Utah. Will check out escalante and wedge overlook. Thanks guys!

My opinion as a somewhat local: Capitol Reef > Bryce Canyon. WAY less people, and lots to explore.

    Small slot canyons
hike up to Cassidy arch, and do a 7 pitch rapp off the top if you are a canyoneering type

I would not do it in a crossover. Going clockwise the switchbacks at Hogback are really torn up and so is the small hill climb between Hardscrabble and Potato Bottom.

White Crack and Murphys Hogback are the best campsites assuming the wind isn't blowing. They are both very exposed if the wind is blowing hard. We were at Gooseberry and it was still rough overnight.
