Torque damage from shifting to 4wd on the fly? If the ADD can't find em let the hubs grind em. Jeep Quadratrac Tcases had a cone in cone limited slip that ate hub dogs, shattered springs and blew off hubs when shifted into full lock 4x4 on the fly.

If I had ADD, maybe? I lock my manual hubs before I leave the house. This was clearly corrosion from leaky seals.

EDIT: If locked hubs couldn't take whatever shock might be present from shifting, they certainly wouldn't hold up to wheeling.

Electronically actuated ADD became standard on 2001 production 4wd. As to what options were available to choose from back when Toyota offered "Have it your way" who knows? Debadged SR5s of any gen. are what you see is what you get best check the VIN and hope it's STOCK.

Your profile says WORK TRUCK is WT an official Toyota designation for specific fleet production?

2000 ADD was vacuum actuated. 2001 was 1st year production with Electronic actuator. Had to research this .

Your ADD should be Vacuum. Is it not?

Makes sense, the diagram shows some Vacuum Switching Valves.

    Yuck.

It is possible someone tossed the hubs together with the spring backwards, this makes the hubs not extend to lock in. That being said, my bet is it is a vacuum problem.

    Correct

Another thing I have had the springs break in the hubs.

Another one is way to much grease that things can`t move

Ughh, I had to admit that it does appear to be the light not working in the dash. I did replace the bulbs with LEDs and apparently I got this one reversed.
To be fair, this was intended to be a reference-finding post, not a diagnose and suggest type of thing.

Since I don't have a way to get all 4 wheels off the ground, the best I could do was drive and look for signs of 4wd being active. I haven't used 4wd for quite a while because the hub dial was so hard to turn before I replaced those o-rings this weekend. The steering definitely feels stiffer, but I couldn't tell if that was just placebo. So the best way I could tell is by trying to spin out in the thick gravel in my driveway. Delivery drivers have gotten stuck, and any pickup without weight in the bed will slip. I couldn't get the wheels to spin even when flooring it, so I guess it works afterall.

    Here's my recent paint job.
