Hi Tacoma World! It has been a few years since I have been on the forum, but now I have questions and need help desperately! I signed a contract Friday on a 2019 SR, was told multiple times it had satellite radio capability(even 5 minutes before I wrote the check), so Sat. morning before going to pick up the "new truck to me", I contacted Sirius XM to move my service from my old 2009 Tacoma to the 2019 SR, only to find out it didn't have satellite capability after entering the 2019 VIN. This was a deal breaker to me, but since I did sign all the purchase paperwork, paid them for the truck in full yet did not take possession of it yet since they had to clean it up first, now they will NOT let me out of the deal. They say the truck is mine, even though the salesman told me it had satellite capability which it DOES NOT, that is not on the contract, so they will NOT rescind the deal and return my money paid them in full.

Not to get into a longer story here, my 2009 SR5 Tacoma had the roof fin just like this 2019, but didn't have the XM receiver, so I bought that small box and the wiring pigtail, easily installed it right onto the 09 wiring harness already there, no adapters needed at all, and quickly had satellite capability.

So...now I am HOPING I can do the same thing with this 2019, so here comes the questions. I tried searching here on this forum this morning first, found some info helpful, but NOT exactly answers to all my questions. With it being Sat. yesterday and today obviously Sun., places like Toyota Parts Online or Toyota Parts Deal were closed - only open M-F.

Well...from what I think I can tell after hours and hours searching all over the internet, there are possibly two satellite receiver "boxes" from Toyota I can add to get satellite capability which I believe attach to the underside of the plain 2019 SR radio - part#86180-0E021 and/or 86180-0E011? It appears either one should work? Of course I would need the Toyota harness which I believe to be part #86842-0E101 and it simply plugs from the receiver into the plain radio, so no adapters needed whatsoever? After install, I think it is simply plug/play with the plain 2019 SR radio screen now showing all the XM features just as if it was a Tacoma that had original satellite capability from the factory? I do not know if this add on receiver is how they do it for ALL Tacoma radios that have satellite capability?

It would be AWESOME if someone could confirm this and these part numbers??? Obviously, you can buy these parts new(pretty high in price) or there is a used market for them too to select from.

I am REALLY in a bad spot right now - can't rescind the truck deal/contract and don't know if this info above is correct or not, so EXPERT knowledge here is crucial! Can ANYONE help me here??? Would prefer if possible to answer my questions here instead of pointing me to possible multiple related threads I haven't found yet. It would also be AWESOME if anyone had either written instructions and/or a video to accomplish this if possible? Just like on my 2009, I will probably be attempting this myself since a dealer would want hundreds in labor costs more than likely. Lastly, I realize there are aftermarket non Toyota products to add satellite capability, but I prefer only Toyota parts. MUCH Thanks in advance!!! Walt

    Please add MY pic!!!

Here is one link to a video on Youtube that shows how to do it.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvfJqC1ZxiE
Also here is a link to Sirius which allows you to check to see if your radio is capable:
    https://www.siriusxm.com/vehicleavailability
This link from Toyota shows what is available on different trim levels. It says that on an SR5, one gets the same thing as on the SR, except it specifically states that satellite radio is available on the SR5 version. So according to this, you may or may not have a problem.

Another point to make, is that if satellite was such a deal breaker, you should have had it in writing by the dealer confirming it, but I think you already realize that now! BUT, the dealer can still say that even though the "deal" was verbal, in them saying satellite radio is possible, it IS possible, but may or may not be possible with the radio you have in the truck. There are several aftermarket radios that will seemlessly fit in there and with the right connections, you will not lose any functionality of the OEM features of the truck. Since the dealer said it was possible, you could go back to the dealer and have them put it in, or buy the aftermarket and do it yourself, if your current radio turns out to not be able to simply plug in an OEM toyota satellite system. By the time you buy an aftermarket radio and put it in, it just may be about the same price to have the dealer add it to the existing radio, again, if it is possible to do so on the existing radio. So technically, I don't think the dealer lied to you, as it IS possible to have satellite radio in the truck, but the ease of doing so may be the catch!

    oogielaflick,

The video is AWESOME, but I still need to confirm or not if one or both of my Toyota part numbers in the original post are CORRECT or not for the add on receiver? How do I confirm that???

I get it, I am the idiot for trusting a salesman, but my thoughts were I wouldn't see that on the radio screen UNTIL I had Sirius XM add my subscription to my new truck. Maybe needless to say, I wasn't used to the "new" radio/NAV screens today, since they didn't have them in 2009.

I had found the link for Sirius XM to check my VIN number and it confirms the truck does NOT have satellite capability - at least yet...

Another idea is for you to take the existing radio out of the dash, and just look on the back of it to see what plugs are available. In addition, check the owners manual that came with the truck, and see what it says about the radio and the ability to add satellite radio. It appears that you do not have that ability from what I was seeing, but with so many variables I cannot say. I say pull the radio out and look at the back of it. It is easy to pull out, by the way... And regarding the salesman, again, he was technically correct in that you can add satellite radio to the truck.. He just didn't say how or how much it would cost or what would be involved...

    oogielaflick,

Here is the VIN number if this would help you help me any VIN 5TFRX5GN5KX164047

Right now, the Toyota dealership still has the truck. I have not taken possession of it yet, since due to this issue, I am "trying to play the cards" of returning it/rescinding the deal, but I am REALLY sensing that IF they will rescind the deal, it will probably cost me several hundred dollars, which gets me back to trying to still make the satellite receiver install work. They have deposited my check from Friday so they say, it hasn't cleared yet, but it will probably early tomorrow morning(Monday). They would not give me a return check yesterday and I get that because the money isn't cleared yet into their account. As I said before, since it is Sunday, I can't contact the Toyota online parts stores, and local dealerships around Atlanta yesterday were no help whatsoever - basically saying they don't make satellite receiver add-ons anymore from Toyota because they weren't selling enough.

So...I can't pull the radio out yet since I don't have possession of the truck yet and right now they are probably "sick" of seeing me to even attempt to look at the owner's manual in the actual truck. My thoughts are with the owner's manual in the truck, it will be the same main manual for all the different kinds of Tacomas - not individualized. I don't think there would be a separate radio manual?

I thought that generally federal/state consumer laws protects buyers by allowing you to cancel any contract within a few days via "buyer's remorse", but apparently Google says that's not the case...the laws are written to *specifically* exclude vehicle purchases!? Huh, I guess lobbying really IS a powerful tool. :-(

At any rate, if it means that much you can file complaints at the BBB and through the DMV (ask them how) so at least it is documented, and for extra oomph make sure to mention that salesman's name. Then it will forever be visible to anyone who looks, although that won't solve your current problem.

I have not used it but will this work perhaps? https://www.crutchfield.com/p_936GSRTY51/Vais-Technology-GSR-TY51-Adapter.html

Actually there is a separate manual for the radio/entune system, for the particular radio in the truck, at least, that is the way it is in my own 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport. There was the basic radio and then there was the Premium version and then there was the JBL version. Those are the three versions I know of. I was actually going to get the SR5 version, but I was told that in the SR5 version, navigation is not built in but has to use one's phone, so that is why I ended up upgrading to the TRD version. That has nothing to do with satellite radio as you are questioning, but it points to the various versions and that each has their own particular thing going on. At this point, considering they may charge you the deposit fee [$500 usually] only, and let you out of the deal, or they may just give you your check back. My dealer actually did my check electronically before I even left the dealership, when I paid for my truck! I paid part credit card [wanted to get all the points I could on my card!], check for $25,000 and another $8000 in $100 bills for a total of $38,000 OTD. Of course I am in CA so just over $3000 of that was taxes.... So before I would lose any money on it, as otherwise the truck was obviously the truck you wanted, I would just take the truck and work on the radio aspect of it when you get it home.
PS: I just took the vin you included above, and did a google on it. It brings up the dealer listing, and from what I am seeing, it unfortunately doesn't give me anything definitively regarding the radio being able to accept satellite radio. Here is the direct link though, in case you would like to peruse it:
    https://www.venicetoyota.com/vehicle-details/used-2019-toyota-tacoma-2wd-pickup-sr-5TFRX5GN5KX164047
PSS: I was going to say you could call a dealership on the east coast but you ARE on the east coast from the dealer listing! However, an idea would be to call another dealer somewhere else, give them your VIN, and then just ask them over the phone, about the satellite radio option. that way, you would not have to deal with the dealer you are already dealing with, and you would be more likely to get a good answer. I can heartily recommend McGeorge Toyota. They do a great job with online parts orders and usually offer parts that other dealers do not have anymore, or parts at discount prices. What I mean is that they are a good dealer to work with and get information from. I have worked with them in the past in obtaining parts. I am giving their information below. Hope this helps at least, a little bit!

    oogielaflick,

If I wasn't LOST before, I am now!!! I clicked on your link where you googled the VIN I provided and "my" truck with that VIN you googled is in Stone Mountain, Georgia, just like on the tag in the pictures on the Venice Toyota website. For as I know at least from Carfax, the truck has never been in Florida. It was bought locally here in Georgia and has never left the area as far as being at another dealer. I just chatted with them(Venice) and calling them right now... Of course Carfax is only as good as the info entered into it.... REALLY LOST right now!!!

I could be persuaded to pull XM rec. out of my 2016 for enough $ to make it worth the time. If interested, PM me. I wanted to get rid of the XM function on my stereo anyway.

It's all about the wording. There's a difference between having SAT radio and being SAT radio capable. Your HU doesn't have it but is probably "capable" with the right additions. So technically he may not have been lying

I learned all that jargon when I replaced the HU in my daughter's car.

There's a bunch of dealers that work together to sell the same vehicles. You could find this same truck for sale in Fort Worth. Don't sweat it.

And yeah, remove the HELP from your title. That's reserved for emergent situations like being stranded.

Also, if you find the parts I have will work, let me know before you order. I'm fairly local (Woodstock) and we could work out a deal.

    Okay...hope the title change "fits"...

Anyway...if nothing else, I have found a new way to search for vehicles. Just talked with Venice Toyota. The truck is not there(as I knew - never has been), yet it will display on their website as with other dealer cars that are not there, if you search certain ways. Sort of weird...

I'm just curious how in the hell would a 2019 car/truck not have satellite capabilities? Christ most places when you buy a car give you a free month of it.

What about just buying a 'plug and play' XM or Sirius radio??? Used one for over 10 years and could remove it from truck and use it in the house or garage or pole building or camp....all for one subscription price.

I even have one - think it might be bluetooth enabled, too - and a bunch of adapters for home/vehicle that I would sell relatively cheap as I got tired of losing reception where I wanted it most due to poor satellite signal and trees!!!
