Install and Review of Sony XAV-AX8000 8.95" with custom Flush Mount in 2019 Tacoma

New to this forum so please let me know if i'm posting this in the right spot or if it needs to be moved.

I thought I would share some pictures of a recent install we did at work in a 2019 Toyota Tacoma. We used a Sony XAV-AX8000 8.95 " media player that is originally designed to be installed a floating screen. After taking some measurements, modifications to the radio itself, machining a little bit off the bezel, and new custom aluminum brackets we where able to flush mount the new Sony head unit for a very OEM Non intrusive install/look.






We also integrated the factory steering wheel controls, rear view camera, and JBL audio system for a seamless install.

Very nice!! I been planning to do this with the new pioneer dmh-wt7600nex or dmh-wt6600nex. Just waiting for them to be available.

 

From what our pioneer reps told us they are in the final phase of the software testing and "should" be shipping in 1-2 months, but that might change if they find something in the software that needs to be address. We have had really good luck with Sony Head units as they offer a very OEM finish and are simple yet robust head units.

 

Yeah i like that unit, but wanted wireless AA and the Alexa integration is a nice bonus. I don't think the sony offers idatalink support either.

 

Hey Sean, really nice install! That looks great. Thanks for sharing the pictures. So it sounds like there was significant custom work to get it to fit like that. How many hours would you say it took?

 

Pics of the brackets, parts, and install would be great.

Really nice install...I actually had that unit but returned it. Just hard to get past, what I thought, of an 80's look on the nearly blank blue screen in XM mode. Waze for Android auto looked was not so hot either.

I had mine close to flush but look of install was least of my issues.

 

Thanks ! It was a good full days of work for us. I would say about 8 hours but now that the first one has been done I'm sure the next one will take a little less time .

 

We normally would document projects like this but on this one our client needed his car back by the end of the day so we didn't have any extra time to snap some good pictures of the custom brackets. Sorry !

love the oem finish! wish you guys were closer... any chance you guys would sell the parts to flush mount it for us diyers? or is this an extremely complicated install best left to professionals?

 

This is something we could defiantly looking into if enough interest was shown. The install of the head unit itself is actually not that difficult once you get past the custom made parts.

 

I would be interested in a package. If you guys are a Sony dealer, I'd buy the HU off you as well, so you can make a few dollars there as well for your effort.

 

We would have to include the head unit with this package as we modify the 8000 chassis to shorten it (the crash bar is right behind the radio so depth is limited).

 

Would also be in for an install package. Would you make the front face?
