Yeah since I am not running this size I can't really comment on whether those folks have taken their trucks off road to test for rubbing. What I have seen from them though was that the tire was not tall enough for the 285 width to cause any rubbing on the uca, even with stock backspacing, which initially was surprising to me.

I am sorry that you have run into issues that I had not heard about before. I am disappointed myself, as this was to be my next tire size, but now I'm not so sure.

KPT, since you're lifted 1.75", I would say you're probably going to be fine.

I will let you guys know how a 1.75 up front works as I am ordering my 5100s this week.
Eurosport, I know in my case the Terra Grappler could have a different shape but there were guys running the TG on my exact wheel who said they did no cutting with zero rub issues so I am just at a loss at how they can possibly not be rubbing with no cutting and no lift whatsoever. In my case it was not possible. I have done a decent amount of cutting and still rub on the fender liner on the firewall side on both the driver and passenger side of the truck with the passenger side rubbing a little worse. I am thinking the 5100s will give me enough clearance to not have to cut up the liner which I am avoiding. It's a 2WD so the truck it will never see heavy wheeling so as long as it can handle mild fire trails I'm not too worried on the wheeling aspect. If it were a 4WD I would have gone 3" with a 285/65.

Correct, I ran this exact tire on stock suspension with no rubbing whatsoever.

I definitely took my truck offroad and I never rubbed even at full flex. Here's a picture showing this tire on my truck on stock suspension before I installed 5100's at 1.75" and stepped up to 275/65/18 Duratracs:

KPT, you should definitely have no problem with this size tire on 5100's set at 1.75".

I'm running 285/60-18 Geolandars on a 18x9 ET0 with 5100's at 1.75. The only time I get any rubbing is at full lock in reverse. The rub is so small I can't even tell where it is and I have no plans to trim anything. Not sure how much that helps because I'm on Yokohamas but it's all about having the right offset.

I needed to trim also, but it's necessary to run these tires!

I wish I could still run full flaps. With the Terra Grapplers even with the 5100s at 1.75 the tires rubbed hard on the mud flaps going forward and reverse close to lock. I trimmed the living crap out of my mud flaps as I wanted them back on as the wider wheel/tires kicks a lot of crap on the truck. The dirt and mud I don't mind but I was starting to find a bunch of rock chips so I ended up trimming the flaps to be mini flaps but there's enough where I have the outer edges still so it will keep some of the debris from hitting the side of the truck. The 285/60/18 Terra Grapplers on the KMC Monsters with the -12 offset still rub slightly on the front plastic at full lock in reverse even with the 5100s set at 1.75 so how guys said this same combo didn't rub at all stock really has me baffled. Now it only rubs that lower plastic portion that bumps out at the bottom at full lock in reverse. I can definitely live with it and the leveled stance looks so much better now too. I know the first time I let my wife drive the truck since doing the wheels, tires and 5100s she will figure out a way to come home with the inner fenderwell and flares hanging off the truck.:D

OP did you ever get everything to work out? I have the 285/60/18 setup, 18x9 XD Monsters with -12 offset and did do a minor trim of my front fender wells as well as remove the mud flaps. The trimming took less than 5 minutes per side and the dealership tech even asked me how I fit those tires without trimming when I took it for oil service, so apparently it cannot be detected they are trimmed.

As you can see here the truck can still flex to the stock suspension max without any issues:
