Only thing I can suggest, is to take them off, and compare them side by side.

Chris, the most logical thing would be the passenger side is set at .85.
The measurement does not look like that much difference, but looking at the distance the passenger side looks farther up than the driver.

Since they are comming off I would leave the 1/4" spacer off the passenger side to counter the lean.
I think when the answer will come to when they are off and side by side.

Well.....Make sure they look identical. Check the integrity of the coil winds, and make sure there are no cracks or anything like that. Also, if you have a micrometer, make sure the coil winds are the same thickness.

Okay, I helped Josh install them. I've installed my 884s, 866s, his 855s, and now his 866s. I'm fairly familiar with the process. I do recall having a bit of trouble getting on of the shocks to line up with the mouting tabs on the UCA when installing the 885s on his truck. As in it was maybe 5* off center and we had to twist it with a screw driver and shove it in.

Mine I did by myself both times and I had no issues. Stock shocks with the 884s and OME with the 886s.

When we were installing his 886s yesterday we started with the passenger side with the shock that is on his driver's side now. It was probably 15* off center. That is to say if the UCA lower shock mount was at 180* this was at 165* or 195* either way... it wasn't lined up at 180*, so we gave up and switched to the other shock and it popped right in place. Then had to force the first shock into the driver's side.

We had to insert an 3/8 extension and use a cheater on the end of it to rotate it around enough to get it in line, we then used a bottle jack to raise the UCA up to force it in to place, and when I say force I mean force... It was not normal but I couldn't figure out why this would be. Perhaps we should have stopped here and taken it back for them to disassemble and check but they were closed and I wanted to get Josh's truck driveable.

I'm not sure if his ride height and this issue could be related or relevant.

His Taco lean is severe and you can tell just from looking at it right off that it isn't normal. I have some and used a trim packer to counter it but his is extreme.

I've read before of defective 886s and this was the only thing I could come up with.

I'm 90% sure 5100s were both installed on 0 and I checked to see the spring seated in the cups correctly.

I couldn't find anything visibly wrong with either side, apart from the severe lean and the twisted shock.

Josh, one more thing. See if you can look inside the coil at the shock body and count 3 of the rings where the cup could sit. I'd expect you should be able to count 3. Thus installed at 0.

LOL,,,, I may just.... I may just!

Seriously though I just checked and I have 3 rings both sides. The only thing I can imagine would be a problem would be the coil. I talked to the guys who put them on and they even took a look and were not sure what it was. They suggested that I may have tweaked the shock or shock setting when "muscling" it in place. DOUBTFUL

So the only real option I have at this point is tonight after I get back from truckee around 6pm I am going to pull both off and start from the drawing board. I will call up wheelers and see what they think and hopefully just swap these coils out and have new ones sent down.

2 Positives: Had to buy tools http://i.cdn.tacomaworld.com/host/tacomaworld/forum/images/icons/icon12.gif

Am enjoying my 4" lift on the passenger side and a 3" lift on the drivers side lol

What tools did you buy. You're welcome to borrow mine. Just remember when you take those out how much effort it took both of us to get them in. You may not get back them in tonight...

I will say I'm wanting Kings badly now that you've got me thinking about it.

I picked up the breaker bar and set of GEAR Wrenches!! I already have sae at the house so I got metric today. Plus I needed some 1/2 sockets so I got those as well.

I was thinking the same thing actually... I am really pissed off about this damn coil issue so I am going to talk to wheelers on monday and hopefully be installing a new set wednesday. I figured I would pull the shocks out today just in case it is user error and not the coil, plus if I cant get them back in the that means something is super wrong, i dont like the idea that its mashed in there.

If the next set does the same thing or has any problems I will be trading up for a set of icon or fox shocks. But my preference would be to just stick with what I got. I liked the ride and quality of the 885's.

Lol well looks like I'll be coming to you to borrow tools :D just kidding...

If you like the ride of the 855s just imagine some resi fox's. mmmmm

back to solving the issue at hand... sorry.

Both are set to 0 then, not .85. I'd vote something is wrong with the coil. I'm off to find that thread.

Keep in mind my dealings with Don left me a bit angry, he's pretty much a douche. To be honest about it, he wasn't straight forward at all and it was a PITA trying to deal with him and in the end I wasted a lot of time trying to buy anything from him. So I'd take all his complaints about ARB with a grain of salt and read what Marc (ARB) has to say as well. Obviously something was wrong with his coils though.

Check page 7 for pics of his lean.

I double checked and as I can see they seem exact. I will post up pics tonight after I remove both coils and struts.

Wow, that is reading right there.... Thanks though. As I said before I have gone to the tire shop and they took a look and nothing seemed wrong. My next step is going to be removing both assemblies and comparing. I will take tons of pics. Then I am going to call wheelers in the morning and explain the problem. Hopefully they will just replace and I will start over.

So far my cost is @ $80 for spring install and $200 in tools. I wanted the tools so no harm. But if I get charged spring install a second time I will be wanting that money back from ARB. Especially since that would mean I have paid this 2 times at the fault of the springs.

    Update:

I just called wheelers off-road and explained the issue and he informed me that they will contact ARB and see what to do. I am crossing my fingers that they will simply replace the 886's.

    Update:

Well just to rule out everything, I removed both assemblies and had the shop swap coils and shocks in reverse to the previous install. Then I installed the suspect spring on the passengers side. This caused a 3/4 inch difference in height. All being said that is better, but still off. If I remove the top plates and run it only on the drivers that puts me off still. Hopefully wheelers can help but at this point it's up to arb.

I don't know if you've already checked or if this would be blatantly obvious but are your uca's and lca's not properly installed or bent?

They are all good no bends or anything. We have narrowed it down to a coil issue since I swapped coils to the passenger side and now that side leans.
